5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My wife got in an accident yesterday with the 2007 Camry. She is fine and the car is still driveable. Some punk teenager driving an older classic car tried to be Steve McQueen and shoot out of McDonald's without looking. She tried to stop but had no reaction time. The kid got a ticket for failure to yield. In any case we are looking at probably 4-5k in damage. In looking at it myself it looks like the hood, fenders, front bumper cover, grille, bumper cross support, lh headlight are going to need replacement, not to mention all the little pieces I am not counting. Will get a picture up shortly.

sounds similar to what happened to me september of last year but involved a expirence older guy driving a old toyota pickup with FL everything(in NJ). looked right and went for it. forgot to look left. well glad to hear everyone is ok. haha i see this as oppertunity for a se conversion/some mods hehe.
It's good everyone is alright. Don't get too sad and worried about your Camry.
On my 3rd day of owning my 07 SE V6, a mountain of ice and snow slid off of my cottage's roof and directly onto my new parked car on the driveway.
I needed a new hood, roof, sunroof rails, painting, etc. That was over $7000 in damage but my car was repaired like new and 3 years later I am happily driving my "lizard."
Everything will be OK.

hopefully they give you a nice rental loaner to beat the hell out of.
If the damage is as you describe, then the car is not legally driveable and the kids insurance company has to give you a loaner now. Just drop off your camry at the body shop of your choice and ask for the nicest car they have
When my gen 5 got smashed by this kid making a left turn into my path his insurance hooked me up with a nice '09 Altima

so if your in an accident and not at fault, you can get one of those luxury rental cars, like a Cadillac and the at fault insure company willl cover you??? I thought there was a limit on the rentals and the at fault gives you a rental, not you go out, get a rental and get paid back... no?

No, not quite. The insurance provides you with the same class of your vehicle that got damaged. In the case of a camry, its a mid-size sedan so they have to give you a mid-size sedan as a loaner, they can't give you a compact or sub-compact.
They might give you a luxury car if you complain that the car they want to give you doesn't meet your needs, but you'll probably end up with something like an Altima, Charger, Accord, another Camry, or whatever the rental company carries as a mid-size. Yazo's Camry is a v6 so he could complain if they wanted to give him a four-banger and might get a luxury car instead.
And you don't get paid back. Every insurance company has a rental company that they deal with. As soon as the at fault insurance accepts liability, you tell them the car is not legally driveable. They then they call whatever rental company they deal with and give them your information. Then you either go there and pick it up, or the rental company picks you up with the car. You don't have to pay the rental company, they have a pre-paid account with the insurance co.
As far as repairs, you either go with one of the insurance co's "recommended" body shops i.e. the ones they have deals with that give them discounts (not recommended) or you choose your own body shop (recommended) but you have to have one of their appraisers look at your car first and assess the damage. Insurance will even pay for you to tow your car to the body shop if u don't want to drive it there.

Really? When my fiancee got rear ended, the insurance company gave her a Chevy Cavalier as a loaner but it smelled like cigs and she cant stand the smell. So she complained and Enterprise gave her a Corolla.
Enterprise gave her X amount of days for the rental while car was in the shop. After that, she had to pay any days after that. I dont remember but I think she paid for it first, and sent the info to the insurance company to get reimbursed. It wasnt much though.
Lets just say, the whole experience for us was a pain. The person who rear-ended her didnt have a drivers license on him (but remembered his DL#) nor did he have insurance/registration but remembered the policy # (who remembers that stuff?). esurance tried to give run arounds and said the damage wasnt as bad, blah blah blah.
