5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
since the last thread i posted on just got closed i figure i would post this in a new thread instead.
i stated that someone managed to get 240whp out of the camry engine by removing the cats on the headers, replacing the exhaust and installing a intake. some people didn't believe me so here is a link to that thread on the aussie site

headers have been discussed before but the problem is who would make them and obviously everyone has a certain price range

my question to all you guys with the V6 is how many of you would be willing to buy headers if someone where to produce them?
The other reality is that removal of catalysts will get you 'black-flagged' for road use in any I&M program area, and is plain immoral for any street-driven car, as it increases poisonous gas emissions by a orders of magnitude.
in order to get to 240 whp i hear you would need custom headers, y pipe, high flow cats, larger piping behind the cats, and a decent set of mufflers. you will also probably need a standalone.
it might be true that he wasnt getting 240whp thats why i said maybe lol.
still our cars do decent with the power it has. if you look at the 07+ altimas they will put down like 250+whp with a full set of bolt ons but still track a low 14... i dont get it? maybe we have a better transmission or something idk ?
does anyone know why our cars are just as fast or faster even though we dyno less?
i thought we closed this thread as the topic has been covered and links were provided?
no that is false... my thread has nothing to do with anything that has been discussed before... the other links the mods left were links to the forum rules. but it was obvious i wasnt trying to sell anything or get a group buy together so it was reopened.
my thread has to do with how this guy modded his car and what people think about it and his claims. as well as any other ideas people have about it or the performance of these cars.
its a very good link you should check it out... has lots of pics of whats done and everything lol
next time if you could please read we would appreciate it .. thanks
240 whp with mods is not outrageous to suggest on a V6 car making 268hp stock before mods. Using 18% parasitic loss from the drivetrain the stock car should put @ 220hp to the wheels. you could gain 20 hp with the right mods.
get some nice flowing headers (custom)
nice flowing downpipe (custom)
nice flowing straight pipe exhaust (custom)
Reprogram the ECU to accommodate the new gas/air flow (custom)
I'd say its attainable. Be ready to shell out some money. I've learned that nething custom is $$ when it comes to the engine.

ive been reading up alot on the mr2 forums about their 2GR-FE swaps and they are putting down some decent power with these engines. from what ive been seeing it seems the engine does very well with a full 3" exhaust and custom headers. seems like they just need to breath
here is a dyno map of a 2GR-FE, mods are custom headers, custom exhaust, custom intake. manual transmission. no ecu mod
while its a manual transmission they are using, the difference in power shouldn't be anymore then 10% less with a fwd automatic that would put it in the 240-250whp range.
