2002 xle how to disable alarm?

I just bought a 2002 xle used and I want to completely disable the alarm system. I live in a rural area and I dont need or have any interest in having an alarm. It did not come with any manuals. Is there an online source for the alarm manual. Does anyone know the procedure for totallyy turning it off? It was an Ebay car so I dont have access to the previous owners manuals.

if it's a factory alarm i'd say visit your local toyota dealer and have them disable it, if it's an aftermarket i'd visit your local alarm/stereo shop and have them disable it.

I appreciate the reply but I would not be asking on a forum if I wanted to take it to the dealer and get way overcharged. I assume this would be a simple procedure if anyone has the manual or can tell me where to find one online. Also- it is a multi hour drive to the nearest dealer and I think they are super snotty there so I dont want to deal with them if at all possible. Thanks again.

I think that above someone was asking the question at to whether it's a factory alarm system or not. I gather that it is but here's your owner's manual. Good luck with your car.

Also, for service manuals check out the main site from that link at www.camrystuff.com and I guess it's a Generation 5 .

I will check the provided link. It must be the factory alarm system. It has the factory indicator to the right of the radio. I think all xle's came with alarms from the factory, right?

Correct it is more than likely factory.

I wouldn't worry about it personally. It disarms when you unlock and arms when you lock. I've never had mine set off, on purpose or on accident.

It's not like you have to push 3 buttons to disarm.

I haven't seen or read anyone on here wanting to or actually disarming the alarm. As the previous poster said the dealer is probably your best bet.

The factory alarm doesn't have a shock sensor so the only time it'd go off is if someone forcefully entered the car after you locked it. My guess is you'll probably have to go to the dealer to have it modified software-wise. You just have to decide if it's worth the time and money to bother with it.

Or here's a better suggestion, why don't you ask your local Toyota dealership? Then you can get a price on it. Maybe you could ask the parts dept as well, they might be more apt to tell you if there's another way to do it yourself.

What if I ever need to disconnect the battery? Will the alarm go off when I reconnect. I see that the indicator light is blinking whenever I shut the door- not just when I lock it? Like I said I live in a small town and no one locks their car doors. Does it mean that the system is armed even without doors being locked? What about finding the location of the module and unplugging it? I simply do not believe in taking it to the dealer unless that is the absolute last resort. I will call the dealer and find out if they can give me any info.

Here is why I dont like the dealer. I just called and the tech said there is no way to uninstall or disable the factory system. That sounds like bull to me- anyone ever heard of a system that cannot be uninstalled or deactivated no matter what?
