Engine cover

Alright fellas I did a search and for the life of me couldn't find what I needed. For those of you that have painted the engine cover, what paint did you guys use and how did you get it to closely match the color of your car?Did you have to sand it and such to prep it? A quick little walkthrough would be nice. Thanks guys.Blue Ribbon is the color

I used high heat primer and high heat paint. But i didn't match my car color, i did a flat black.

EDIT: there is a DIY on the forum, i just can't remember what thread. I do remember that the member who did it had a blue engine cover in his sig. I just can't remember who it was, I'm horrible with names.

I didnt do it with my engine covers, but whilst i was doing mine i did my mates one at the same time (he did not have paint originally on it like i did. i had to lightly scrub mine before applying the paint)
ANyway, to prep the surface i got all the gunk off by using wax and grease remover and then hosing it down. Just to make sure, i scrubbed it with warm soapy water. After that, make sure you use high temp primer. add a couple coats to it just to make sure, then add your high temp paint. Allow 5-10mins between coats just to make sure. Give it a few coats until your happy with the look

To get my engine covers to match, i got my actual paint code and went to a auto paint store to make it up for me. I originally painted my mudflaps so i used the left overs to paint the engine covers. Just make sure this is high temp stuff, i asked them just to make sure.

Heres my thread if you wanna check it out

I painted my buddies engine cover a couple of weeks ago, he said he wanted it to be silver, black, white or green....

I gave him this back:

now to answer the question, a quick scuff up, a coat of primer, 2 to 3 coats of paint and your done... unless your nuts like me... in which case there is a lot more work involved, lol.
