5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm really new at this, i just bought myself a Gray 2002 Toyota Camry XLE. And i have a question which i can't seem to figure out, How do i change the speaker sound in the front to the rears? Is it in the mode settings?
So.. I totalled my car a while ago. I have roughly 12k in insurance and a loan for the rest.
I almost purchased a 2010 camry white xle today... unfortunately it seriously smelled like smoke. it was 22k, and that's okay, but, it just wasn't "the" car...
I am torn between the SE and the XLE... I want the bells and whistles... but, I love the body kit of the SE.. Any input from the peanut gallery?

Yeah, in the radio you can adjust the settings in mode I believe it is.

You can go either way if you want...buy an SE (some come with leather and Nav already, but hard to find) and add what you want, or buy an XLE and add the kit (there are a couple aftermarket choices out there).

I recently bought my mother's 2002 Camry LE. She bought it brand new, and it has been kept in awesome condition, so I figured might as well.
I just replaced the rear speaker with JL Audio TR690-TXi 6" x 9" Evolution TR Series 3-way Speakers
I ordered 2 Polk Audio - 10" Dual-Voice-Coil 8-Ohm Subwoofers
I still need to get an amp, new headunit, and maybe eventually new door speakers.
I don't yet have any other mods in mind. I have considered some things to improve fuel efficiency, but have yet to decide on any. My first check for MPG, I think I calculated 35.something MPG. Majority was on highway, some of it dealing with traffic to/from work.
I suppose that's my introduction
Edit - Also, for the subs, I do not yet have a box or boxes for them. I have a friend who has a box that may fit them, but do not yet know. Currently, the plan is to put the subs in the trunk. Doubt I will try anything fancy.

35 mpg is very good, nothing to sneeze at, welcome...

Is 2007-2011 Camry(4 cylinder le/se) stable at highway speeds?
Hi All,
My family is a die hard Toyota fan. Before coming to the U.S. I had driven my dad's corollas, Coronas (Japan Imported), Premios (Japan Imported). So when I came to U.S. for studies I bought a Solara (year 2000). It was a very nice car but I had one complaint, the car was unstable at highway speeds. It swayed from left to right and always needed streering correction. It did not feel planted at all, always floaty.
So I upgraded to a BMW 5 series (One of the best cars I have driven). But I dislike its hard drive. Maintenance cost is not a problem as I mostly do DIY. But I am used to smooth and soft riding toyotas. Toyota actually reminds me of my dad!
So I want to switch back to Camry. I do not want 2012-onwards model. I do not like it. So my options are good used models from 2007-2011. So is camry stable at 70mph? Does it feel planted? what about the road noise at highway speeds?
Any other suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
STK

Actually I had the same problem in a 2005 camry as the car sway from right to left. This was actually caused by a rod on the axle that was loose and it needed to be replaced. That cost me about only $100 tho I have a 2007 Camry v6 and it is stable, even 90 mph haha. The noise is ok although you are going to be disappointed comparing to that 5 series.

Thanks Peter. That is good to know. I am not expecting Camry's ride to be like 5 series but I know how Toyotas should drive. Although I have maintained my 5 series very well, I am never confident about going on long rides across states. Any thing could go wrong in that car at any time!
Do you have an XLE or SE? Do you recommend V6?

not a problem ! I have a SE and I can say having both a LE and a SE that the SE is a bit more firm. You really can feel more of the bumps and curves of the road. The XLE has more bells and whistles but overall I like the SE because I think the bodykit and the wheels look very gooD. I have a fully loaded v6 SE with navi and backup cam too so it feels nice inside too.

I have an 09 Le with the 4cyl. It is very stable to well over 100mph Not to get my self in trouble but sometimes in deserted west Texas that is the flow of traffic ! with a good balance job. Not really I don't cruise that fast but I do at 80 - 85 mph and it is solid and have taken it to 115 still solid. I have never had the guts to see where the limiter shuts it down, I know it is over 115. I think if you are used to a Bimmer you should get the se with the v6 as that will be closer to what you are used to and still much softer than the Bimmer.

Thanks. Glad to know that your car rides that well. I have been to Dallas for quite some times and noticed that on the free way the spped of traffic was around 80mph. If you drive at the speed limit, you get passed by everyone!
I would prefer LE or XLE as I want the car for interstate driving. Ride comfort is my utmost requirement. I also plan to change the tires to a softer compound in order to have a solid grip on the road. Have fun in Texas!
Well just become a first time Toyota owner. Wife and I were blessed with a 2006 Toyota Camry that someone gave us as a gift. Our previous vehicle had blown up and been on foot for awhile. Well last week we were given the Camry as an early Christmas gift. Look forward to learning from you guys.

Congrats...you should get the maintenance history so you will know what's been done and what needs to be done to keep your cam running forever...once you know it's history (heck, even before then) you'll get plenty of advice here (as I discovered when I got Kitacam in Oct)
Enjoy your Toy
