5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
This years tax returns have been good to me so im going to spend some on my car. My problem is this:
When I first got my camry I knew even less than I know now and bought 18x7.5 wheels with a 42 offset and with 225/40/18 tires and no drop. Not only is the wheel gap big enough to stick my head in there, the wheels are tucked in(I hate the tires being tucked in worse than the gap). I thought about getting spacers but I drive aggressive and im not too trusting on spacers. Heres a side shot...
I'm thinking I have 2 choices, 1-get new wheels 18" or 19"x8's 35 offset and slap on 235/45's closing the gap a bit more and being flush or 2- get springs and deal with a smaller gap and try not to look at the tucked in wheels.(I flirted with the idea of just getting bigger tires for these wheels but dont want to do that)
If anyone can think of anything else i could do to solve my problem i'd appreciate it, I cant think of any other options. BTW i have about 1500 bucks to spend. Thanks in advance.

ive got 19x8.5 with 45+ offset and the front is perfectly inline with the body but the back just tucks in well. So to answer your question, id go with upgrading to a bigger size and then dropping it.
Sell your current rims with tyres, maybe depending on how much you got it for you'll get around 1k back? then use that money to upgrade and drop her.
at least you got wheels, im still deciding what to do hhaha, but i recommend to keep those wheels for winter and just buy new wheels, check zilvia.net and clublexus, theres always some good deals

Drop it. they won't look as tucked if it's lowered...or lower it and get spacers to push them out flush.
Your wheel gap makes me cry
What??? Dropping it will make it more noticeable since its closer to the wheel well
Lowering it too much will make it even more noticeable due to camber...
8" with +35 will not make the rear flush... you need at least +20 to make it flush for 8" wide wheels (which are impossible to find) or +30 for 8.5"
hey i have the same set up when the BBS was on but the tire were 225-45 with Tein drop
i know its lit bit hard to see but check it out 18x7.5+42 225-45-18
this is with Ksport coils
i would agree with Peach with the spacer n get a a drop
I just cant trust spacers the way i drive. Im not an authority on them, i just know I wouldn't feel comfortable with them. And you setup is exactly how mine looks, it just bothers the $hit outta me the way the rears look tucked in. Im just going to have to see if i can start doing more overtime and get wheels AND a drop. the springs are cheap enough, just gotta find out how much installation is...
