5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
That's not really a dumb question, just may be irrelevant to you but definitely a good point. Money definitely doesn't come easy, if it does, you wouldn't be in a Camry in the first place. I believe some dealers do offer just can keep their existing customers but it varies dealer to dealer.
Edit: I saw the link for the dealer above ^^, seems okay but I would expect them to offer the difference in the lost value when it comes time to trade it in for another Toyota.

Dude, when I find that link for the dealer offering free manicures and complimentary snack bar... you're gonna blow your mind. Forget compensating us for "loss" of value...

That's one dealership... the dealer website I was looking at, offered it because of the recall... blah blah blah...free manicure while you wait...something free soda...something something...free something else...
To better address the question presented by the OP---the manufacturer has no way of setting the resale price of the used vehicle. Yes if the general public sees the Toyota as less than desirable then the value goes down. By how much? By whose measure? It can't be measured. A manufacturer (of any product) sets the retail price of their new product. They would never under any circumstance attempt to set the resale price of their used products outside of the normal supply and demand parameters. Far too many variables--one of which is the perceived value by the potential buyer. Now, turn the table. If the recall goes well and it might, and the resale price of the car goes up because the general public felt that Toyota did it well, then are the owners of the cars sold in recent years going to get a bill from Toyota for the increase in the anticipated resale value???

The trade in or discount for remaining a loyal customer would be great.
I have also read some dealers are still accepting trades at a lower value then fixing the recall and increase the sale price back...
Other than the pedal issue Toyota hasn't had any other major issue..
