Stripped headbolts won't kill your car

The stripped headbolt problem on the 4 cylinder will not kill your car. If you need help, I can help you through it. The dealer will want about $6,000 to install an new block, but YOU can fix yours better and in less time. The repair is not easy but it can be completed with a good set of tools.

The headbolts threads in the block give up and need to be replaced. To do this you need to remove the pan, front cover, front mount, PS pump (don't take the hoses off), intake and exhaust manifolds, camshafts and the head assy. (leave the spark plugs in), There are some "Tricks" that help this all happen but should take an evening to tare it down.

The holes in the block are dry (don't go into coolant or oil areas) and the threads are recessed below the block surface so you need a special drill and tap to ready the holes for the inserts. Using a guide to hold the drill in proper alignment this can be completed in an hour or two. DO ALL 10 HOLES. Clean it up with air and spray parts cleaner, put it back togeather using NEW headbolts, and drive the car for another 100K or more.

All this can make your engine better than new (as far as headbolt threads) and you will know a bit more about your engine.

As long as you haven't overheated the engine go for it. If you want to talk about it, give me a phone number and we can talk.

Dave

Well if I ever get this problem on my 2006 can I fly you in from Arizona to NJ? Be a Hell of a lot cheaper than the mechanics around here.

Dave,

We've got this problem in my son's '02 Camry. I'd like to discuss with you & possibly rent your TimeSert repair kit. I sent you a PM with my phone number. Please give me a call?

Thanks!

Thanks, Dave!!!

Just wanted to post a great big THANKS to Dave for renting his head bold thread repair kit to my son and me. We had several stripped out bolt holes in my son's 02 Camry. Dave was great about shipping the kit out to us quickly and giving us advice.

Thanks a million, Dave! (I'd use the "Thanks" feature, too, except it doesn't show up in this thread for some reason.)

If anyone else is ever considering renting Dave's kit, and wants a reference to confirm that he's trustworthy, please feel free to email me at qetzal -at- yahoo -dot- com. I'll be happy to vouch for him.

P.S. Repairs completed; "Eleanor" is running great now!
