Penzoil Platinum in 2002 Camry V6?

have a 2002 V6 Camry with 67000 km on it. have used regular oil for oil changes @ recommended intervals.

is it safe to switch to PP synthetic now? cause i heard for older engines switching could cause leaks. but is 2002 engine considered "old" engines?

thanks.

What you've heard is outdated information perpetuated by people who refuse to let it die.

Switch back and forth or mix to your heart's content without worries.

^ but u have used the synthetic oil since the car was new?

i am just afraid of the 'switching'... the synthetic cleaning the engine too good and cause a leak.

I've never heard that synthetic oil cleans engines any better then dino oil. But occasionally on old, half-worn out and neglected engines switching to synthetic can cause an oil leak, especially if the oil is the wrong viscosity. However you only have 41,000 miles on your engine.

I have used mobil 1, intermittently, in every car i've owned, since 1979. Most of the cars had over 100,000 miles on them too. I sometimes use a full fill synthetic for an oil change when i am driving in very hot or cold conditions (like Las Vegas in July, or Wichita in January etc.) and sometimes just mix in one quart with the rest just dino oil, (it's compatible with probably any SAE rated oil you can buy).

I've never had a problem with any engine by with switching back and forth with synthetic and dino for oil changes (2002 V6 camry). If you want to use synthetic oil, go ahead and change it.

Some say PP gave cold start chatter. Don't know. How about Mobil-1? Some use Walmart synthetics, which may be made by Penn. Not sure.

i dont know if the synthetic has better cleaner or not. but just heard it can lead to leaks if used on older engines.

anyhow my engine should be in good shape, as i change oil every 4000km-5000km.

i just wanted to try PP and see how the camry will react to it/ clean sludge if any.

"High Mileage" oils typically have more detergent. They also have seal conditioners that help prevent leaks.

You can also use dino oil with AutoRX:
http://www.auto-rx.com/pages/applications.htm

Mobil-1 High Mileage or Mobil dino High Mileage Clean may work as well and should be a less expensive alternative to Mobil-1.

"With 16 percent more cleaning additive than our conventional oil*, Mobil Clean High Mileage helps control the formation of sludge and harmful deposits to keep engines running cleaner longer."

on the PP bottle, it advertise it has the 'cleansing agents' to fight/ clean sludge.

PP did cause cold start chatter for my '00 Solara @ 65k miles (first switch from dino) when weather changed to cold in mornings. Mobil1 FS doesn't do that and engine seems to run much better on it. next time i will try Valvoline probably just to see if it really makes any difference in engine sounds.

i don't think 67k kilometers is anywhere close to high mileage ... i'm at 70k miles (112k Km) now and using regular type of synthetics.
