5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey all, had a look around the forum and really liked you bunch of helpful & energetic people.
Im 20 years old and live in Australia. I know it seems like you are mostly from the states, and damn it I don't get all the good stuff that you guys do .
My camry is a 2006 V6 model, I believe it's called LE over there. It's got the 3L 1MZ with almost 120,000 km on the clock, 4 speed auto, other than that only basic equipments and hell not even alloys T.T But hey it's my first car, drives pretty good ( for now ~) and Im looking forward to work it.
Got a few questions and any help will be appreciated
1) Is the MCV36 considered gen five here? That's what I got.
2) Should my 1MZ be a VVT-i ? The engine doesn't have the usual badge and right now I can only hope it is >.<'
3) Looking to adjust the suspension on it, are there any known issues or recommendations as in how and what to do?
4) Some advice on intake/exhaust will be greatly appreciated !! I take performance over looks, so looking to start in that department.
For the suspension, the only thng you can do is lower it with lowering springs. Can't adjust anything on the stock suspension. For the intake, you can get a K&N drop in filter or short ram. Exhaust depends on what you are looking for. You can just change the muffler and it will give you nice sound. Custom work is your best friend.

stock suspension =.='
On the exhaust side, will a full cat-back system give a bit more power? Is it worthy to even change to a high flow cat ?
Your 2006 is considered a Gen 5 (5.5 to be exact).
Just get K&N drop in filter and a Vibrant muffler, you don't have to change the whole exhaust setup. I think one of your buddy there (Private_Number) is ordering it from the States, I don't know how it goes.
Get lowering springs, new wheels, and you're all set... maybe not, as there is always something more to add.

GT-R; currently in the process of getting it as we speak.
To the OP;
Kingsprings are the safest option for lowering springs here in australia, or pedders. depends how much your budget is. Personally i have kingsprings on my ride, though im not sure if its an even drop. The front isnt lowered as much as the back (just by observation). Whereas on pedders, one of my mates "akuma" has pedders springs all around and it seems like a pretty even drop (say 1 finger from the top of the arch to the tyre all round, whereas myself..its 1 finger or less in the rear and to in the front)
But if you mean "adjust" the suspension you want to modify your current suspension, the only way i can think of you doing that is by cutting the springs..dont do it.
By the way, where in australia are you located mate?

I live in Sydney, around the Five Dock area.
I dont have alot to spend, but I am looking for improvement on the handling.
So should I just pop into a specialist workshop or order them myself and have ppl install them?
I would avoid that option and order online. Auto stores here will rip you off (ie. $100+) for filters they need to order in... which is pretty much everything else except Falcadore filters.
so basically order them in from the states and then just go to my mechanic?
would that actually work out to be faster and cheaper o.O ?

5.5 =.=' it's just on some websites 01'-06' models are Gen 6, and beyond is Gen 7 , but anyway doesnt really matther that much.

Thanks man
Just pop into a specialist workshop. If your going for kingsprings, any good suspension joint will get the parts in for you. if you want pedders, any pedders outlet will help you there.

The "finger" method is not the most accurate way to detect the amount of drop! If you have even gap on the front and the rear, that means the front is actually lower than the rear. This is because there is more wheel arch on the front of a car than the rear... to accommodate the front wheels being able to turn and steer the car. The best and only way to accurately measure drop is via the sill of the car. As it is a straight edge that runs from back to front.
It should be even or slightly lower at the front than the rear. My Cam looks like the nose is higher, but if I measure the sills to ground at all 4 corners it is even.
