5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am at my wits end to figure out what to do with my factory defect Camry I bought. I feel that I bought a prototype car rather than a brand new '07 Toyota Camry XLE fully loaded (Nav, etc). I have had over 12 repairs and got left stranded 2 times. The dealer has been good and did repair most of the items under warranty. However, I am very concern about continual repair. I written Toyota National Center for Dispute Services and received a letter back saying they don't deal with cars that is out of warranty. I have also called Toyota Corporate and they won't do anything.
Do I have any legal recourse?
The below are the repairs over the last 4 years.
Brake Vibration - machined rotor
Car lurches forward during slow down - reprogrammed computer
Roof leak - sun roof disconnected
Car continue to lurch forward during slow down - replaced transmission
Trunk won't close - release stuck
Brake Pulsating returned - replace all rotors
Lould creak pop during slow turning - replace L & R struts
Visor won't stay up - replace
Loud creak pop continue - found out missing weld joints. Had to bring to body shop to disassemble body panels, weld, and reassembly body panels.
Dead battery - replace
Oil tube burst - replace VVTI tube
Accelerator issue - being reshape, and reprogram computer.
Now my rear struts are starting to make popping noises, my rear roof light is loose, my leather is lifting from my arm rest.
This is my first Toyota and definitely did not expect this type of quality. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Have you checked to see what Maryland's lemon laws are like, if the state has any? Also, have you checked with the state attorney general's office? Many states, like California, have an automotive office and/or commerce office with the state attorney general that will investigate issues like yours.

i know about the visors, both of mine just hang straight down. Well currently i don't have sun visors as those bastids are expensive. I tried to repair it but the PLASTIC housing that turns the courtesy light on is total crap!!!
a lot of the problems you listed have been pretty common with the 07+ camry's especially the V6. It's possible you got a defective car/lemon, but its also possible your problems are just due to the generally poor quality of the gen 6 camry. (not poor quality compared to GM etc., but very poor for what you'd expect from toyota)
As traildust said, best option is to look into MD lemon laws. You are fortunate that the dealer is doing repairs for an out of warranty car. Beyond that, do as much research as possible before buying your next car & don't rely on brand "reputation"

TRUE TRUE... I got all caught up in the new '07 model when it first came out. What a tough lesson learned. Toyota has really disappointed me. I really bought it base on brand... what a big mistake.
I'm confused, how did you buy a brand new 07 in 2010. Do you mean used?
Read the original post. The OP bought the car when the 2007 model year came out, likely in 2006, and has a laundry list of repairs that have been needed on and off warranty during the past four years.
I think I would have traded it before now.

I guess Toyota trying to lower the cost of product so they can sale lower price to compete with Ford for the top place and now they have to pay for that...
I'm thinking save up money and buy some luxury German car ...
Good for you... that does not mean anything to others who have......
Another useful post AMAZING !!!!!!!!

I for one am glad to hear something positive from anyone on their Toyota. I'm tired of all of the bashing. Me personally, I just bought my 4th new one (2 Camry's, 2 Sienna's). Zero non-maintenance $'s ever needed, all of em ('cept for the 2 accidents!)

I agree,
I have a 2009 Camry SE... with no problems what so ever. I even have the Denso gas pedal.. all they have to do to mine is shave the pedal.. I have no complaints about my car and would by a toyota again.. this is my 3rd toyota product. Sometimes the guy above comes on as sarcastic thats all... I would buy another Toyota as well after this one. And I know in the future
Toyota will regain its reputation for high quality and trouble free cars. Just about every automaker has had trouble with recalls in the past. When I bought my Camry I had the choice between the Altima, Fusion, Milan, Camry, Accord, Malibu etc. What did I choose the Camry
and still would today......

I have become a low mileage driver in recent years. My office door is 1.1 miles from my home. Bought the car in October, 2006, had the transmission computer updated to fix the 3rd to 4th gear issue, had the vvti hose fixed, the pedal and brake override firmware updated, and the oil changed a few times. New tires are the sole expense thus far. It all works properly, quietly, flawlessly. Maybe I'm one of the few, but I'm happy.

I feel the same way about my Camry as the OP... just a POS in my opinion... I, too, have a laundry list of repairs done and even contacted Toyota directly about everything. Of course, they came back and said there was nothing that they could do. BS... I may seek the advice of a lawyer soon...
My car: 2007 SE V6, 27,000 miles, leather, nav, etc., U.S.-built.

That is why I replied to njeralds post the way I did.. some people have had a lot of problems with their camrys some have not. Buy posting that he has never had a problem really does not help anyone who has.
