GEN 5.5 SE 3MZ Supercharged?

People I need input from:
TRD4Life
SCWEET1
Chronoti
ASG14

Stuff I've looked at: (Fix your pics, SCWEET! )
3MZ SCed 5spd Lives on........
Weekend Teaser......

Let's assume I own a 06 V6 SE for the sake of this.

I know the 3MZ/1MZ + Supercharger setup has been done on the gen 3 camrys (relatively) easily. But i've been think for a few days. What if we took a 04-06 SE V6 Camry (factory 3MZ) and did the same 3mz/1mz hybrid plus supercharger setup to it? Anyone every though about this?

I see major issues with the DBW throttle and possibly the ECU and wiring. And I assume the stock 5-speed auto would have to go as well. I think in my mind an ideal setup here would be the stock 3MZ, stock 5-speed auto, and the 1MZ bits + supercharger.

I'm just researching here and throwing together a rough parts list. Thanks in advance!

Btw- Ever get any HP/TQ numbers for the S/C setup you installed, SCWEET?

i was considering S/C for the ES, but my car fails in 3 ways...
1. VVTi
2. drive by wire
3. 5 speed autotragic
i would have to figure out how to make the s/c work with the VVTi and the drive by wire throttle unit (mine has single throttle body and plastic intake manifold. FAIL)...the VVTi 1mz and 3mz are different animals than the standard 1mz engines...im looking into ways to make it work and still retain all of the stock systems, but dont hold your breath...
im pretty sure the s/c will bolt up, but the issue is how am i going to make the ECU compatable with the s/c and have the drive by wire and vvti functioning normally...

short answer: throttle body adapter plate and stand-alone.

long answer: this reminds me of the 9th gen corolla guys when their 1zz suddenly changed from cable-throttle to dbw (cable in 03-04 and dbw in 05-08). the trd supercharger didn't adapt (with rumors that trd would do so), and therefore, the supercharger was only for the 03-04 guys. the 05-08 guys had to create a custom adapter plate for the new dbw throttle body, and resort to stand-alone. you'd possibly also have to resort to the "norm"- keep the 3mz bottom and attain some older non-vvt-i heads.

Thanks guys. Basically it looks like two routes are opening up here.

1) switch to a non-vvti 1mz head, ecu, and switch to a cable throttle
I know people have done this... just not on the gen 5.5. It's really be an issue of the DBW system, right? Any more insight?

2) TB adapter and stand alone.
i've never heard of this... unless you mean a standalone ECU. anyone with experience I should direct to look at this thread on TN that's done similar with the 9th gen rolla?

EDIT: looks like a manual swap is pretty much required here, no?

i would assume that a cable throttle conversion would definately make the ECU go mad, seeing as the ECU tries to send the command to the throttle stepmotor which wouldnt be there anymore after conversion, and expects that the TPS would show a value equal to what the ECU is demanding.

I would think that a standalone ECU will be required in order to do the cable throttle conversion.

^ same here. thus why i'd THINK you'd want to use a ECU from a non-VVTi 1mz engine.

did some searching around on solara guy. looks like one guy wanted to put a vortech V5 on a 3mz.

http://solaraguy.com/viewtopic.php?t...er=asc&start=0

still... i'm thinking the roots type charger from the 1mz would be the best choice. I'm thinking about the cost of having this done now....
1mz supercharger...... ~$3000
AEM stand alone ECU........ $2100
misc parts + tuning... $3000?

EDIT: 8k is on-par with what sebas007 predicted for his vortech charger install.

8 grand...wooo

I'm all for speed and power, but for 8k, buy a miata, slap on the greddy kit, and a rollbar/harness, and you have a car immensely more fun than the camry ever could be....

^ pretty much. It's really just not worth it for that kind of money. I guess let the thread die.
