Gen5 2.4L blown head gasket

Found out that our '03 Camry XLE with 109,000 miles has a blown head gasket. It is on the intake side of the motor between the 3rd and 4th cylinders.

I have read a lot about stripped head bolts causing blown head gaskets and there is even a Service bulletin 01507 NHTSA#10021542 documenting this.

What I would like to ask this Forum is this; has anyone else had this problem and if so where they able to get Toyota to cover the cost (either the whole thing or partial) of the repair? My local mechanic found that a number of head bolt threads where either stripped or loose. I have documented everything and am trying to find a way to get reimbursed for this.

Thanks for the help,
Terry

How much is the repair? Did your call ever overheat?

For more info see this thread GEN5 2.4L 2AZ-FE Stripped Head Bolts

It is in by my local mechanic and I'm documenting everything as he is doing the work. Originally he said it maybe about $1,000 to replace the bad head gasket but now I think the bolts might be stripped from what I have found out so I'm prepared for the worst because he might be having to fix the stripped threads in the block too. But I feel that the engine will be better than new then.

I did not see the temp gauge red line so I don't think it overheated but will find out more later.
