Gen6 AutoStick Shifter Conversion

Has anyone ever looked at doing a shifter conversion from the gated 5 speed shifter to the SE's slapstick shifter for manually up/downshifting? We could do it in the Intrepids with just the shifter, console trim piece, gauge cluster, and tranny computer swap from an AutoStick donor car... I'm curious if doing it on a Camry would be much more difficult. Or would the 5/6spd difference make it a non-starter?

Yes, I have the i4, but if the transmission is electronically controlled, I'm curious if swapping in the different componentry would leave me able to do it. Let's say this- is there a separate computer from the engine/body controlling the tranny, or is it all-in-one on these cars?

unless it's a very cheap mod, it wouldn't be worth it IMO. trust me. slap stick shifting sucks and is nothing even in the universe of a real manual transmission. you'd probably have fun just playing with it for a few days, then end up driving your car in normal auto all the time.

that automatic manual mode sucks, I played around with it on other cars before i got the camry and it got boring. You'll probably play with it for a few days but then switch back to regular automatic.

Okay...

Well the manual shift mode is only good for engine braking and keeping in one gear

It's just something I kind of miss from my last car.. Not entirely useful, but fun to mess with and comes in handy for quick 2 gear downshifts when someone does something stupid on the interstate
