Question about "lifetime warranty" on my '06 Camry

I heard mention of some Camry's having an available lifetime warranty, maybe it was a dealer thing, I don't know. I purchased my '06 Camry XLE used in Ohio and the dealer had signs in his showroom about this lifetime warranty. When I asked him about it he made it sound as if it was offered only on Gen 6. Soon after getting home with the car I noticed a sticker in my door opening that says lifetime power train waranty....

Does anyone have any idea what the deal is with this? I'm thinking it is a Marketing deal with specific dealers if you have them do all of our service and keep your maintenance records ect.

Sounds like a dealer offer. Cause it's the first i've heard of this.

I have this on my 2008 Camry. It is dealer specific and if you read the fine print carefully it says you need to have all the maintenance related to the powertrain performed at a Toyota dealer (this is what my paperwork says, yours may be different). It says "any" toyota dealer, but I am doing everything at the same dealer I bought the vehicle at in order to minimize the possibility of a blame game, if two dealers say the other is at fault. I have run into a few issues with the dealer because they have recommended injection services for $99 at 30k and 60k miles and they put "declined injection service" on my invoice. If this occurs, I always make them indicate that it does not void my lifetime powertrain warranty and the service advisor or manager will sign it. The stuff says that the lifetime warranty only applies to the ORIGINAL vehicle owner and is transferrable if the vehicle is retitled or sold. It says there is a $100 deductible in the event any repairs are necessary, but also indicates that I am responsible of the cost of the teardown of the engine or transmission if necessary before the warranty will kick in.

^ sounds like you already pay for everything and the warranty will cover a tiny bit if any at all. Too many fine print for me to understand.

Most of these warranties are ways of getting extra $$$$ out of you in oft-times questionable to unnecessary 'services' - e.g. 30K coolant service intervals, 30K plug changes, 3K oil changes, etc. They're mostly "servicing" you the way a bull "services" a heifer.
