I'm wonder about the resale value of my Gen 6 Toyota that's only a couple
of years old. It was part of the gas pedal recall and the dealer had already
fixed the problem. (come to think of it, last year the dealer also
fixed/updated the transmission software during that recall)
If I want to sell the car in a year or two, how hard do you think it's going to
be? Even my local Toytota dealer's own used car dept is not taking any
Camrys as trades right now, according to the used car manager that I was
chatting with last week.(3/12) The prices of completed sales on Ebay don't
look as nice as, say, back in November.
I do not doubt Toyota's ability and willingness to fix the current problems.
On the other hand, potential buyers of used Toyotas will not be so forgiving.
It's not like Toyota is ths only reliable car manufacturer selling cars in the US.
(a used Honda is almost just as reliable and without the bad publicity right
now)
Many years ago, I had an Audi. Yes, one of those that nobody wanted. I took
a big loss when I tried to sell it after a couple of years. Sure, Audi has
cleaned up its act after all these years, but it took them a LONG time to
recover.
99% of the members here are obviously Toyota supporters. (myself included)
But non-Toyota owners are cruel right now. My boss used to make me drive
her to business meetings. Not anymore. Now she gets my co-worker to
drive us to the business meetings. (the coworker has a Hyundai Santa Fe,
and it scares me that some people now think Hyundai may be safer to be
riding around, as opposed to a 2-year-old Toyota Camry)
Toyota may very well be the best car manufacturer, but they suck when it comes
to public relations.
