I did mine the first time without high heat paint and it didn't flake or crack. I guess it doesn't get hot enough.
I did mine as well with reg. paint. After a road trip, I could smell the paint and it was pretty warm to the touch, the paint was a little soft as well.
I ended up just sanding and painting it with a high gloss / high temp. red.

1. You're in New Jersey. Isn't there an automotive paint retailer within 10 minutes of your house? Every town of any size has such,
2. Why do you need heat resistant paint? You are painting plastic. If it gets hot enough to destroy the paint, the plastic is going long before the paint does.

just find a duplicolor vinyl/plastic paint in similar color and do it with that. it's very durable from expirence and should resist the heat. i have the black background on my front emblem painted with it and so far its great. the metalcast on the emblem it's self is coming off while the background from what i last saw is like new *knock on wood*.
