Gen6 New Camry Owner Here (Barcelona Red Metallic 2010 SE v6)!

Hey there, everyone! Long story short, I don't know a friggin' thing about cars beyond changing the oil, but I'm here to start my journey of learning (so, please don't pillage me for being a car noob), specifically via my new Camry 2010 SE v6. I just purchased it yesterday and I absolutely love it! Some quick to-do's for me are to tint the windows and put a better system in it. Over time, I want to do things to it to make it faster and look even better (don't we all?), but I'm not one to just throw a bunch of money at something I don't know how to do (I might, though, if I actually had that kind of money, lol), so, again, I'm here to learn from all you wise individuals populating this forum.

I'm in the process now of checking out the Gen5+6 DIY thread to start learning some of this stuff and I've already browsed around enough to gather that Peach is the man. =) Anywho, I'm looking way forward to participating and learning all that I can, so I hope you guys (and gals?) are cool with having a newbie on-board. I'll try my best not to be annoying or ask really stupid questions.

I'll get some pics up soon of the new ride. Looking forward to getting to know all of you in the Camry community! Outside of checking out the DIY topic, any direction that you guys could steer me in to start learning more about my model Camry would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

-Stephen

UPDATE: Finally snapped some pictures! Here they are:

Welcome to TN!

Definitely post pics of your car. You can use this thread as your UPDATE thread for any updates to your car.

Great start on reading the DIY's and reading through the forum. If you have a question and did a search and noticed that there is a thread that is the same as your question, feel free to post in that same thread and bump it up. No matter how old the thread might be.

We're all here to help!

Congratulations on your new purchase. The first thing to know is that you don't want to apply tools to the car until you know what the result will be. If you aren't a mechanic, leave the work to mechanics. Far too many guys get on here with questions which challenge our restraint. Secondly, there is little or nothing you can do to improve its power and performance of the V6. The engine is controlled by the computer, and produces more horsepower already than the car needs. You may already have discovered that your toe must touch lightly at signals, lest you leave rubber behind. Adding cold air ducts and TRD oil caps and changing out the exhaust system will make it go faster in the sense that painting flames on the side will make it go faster. There are a number of sound systems available for the car, none of which are much better for the money than what is available from the factory. Since you are young (and foolish ;') ), and have deep pockets, knock yourself out on upgrading the sound. Just remember that the system that came with the car is pretty darned good just by itself, that your ears must last you a life time, and that with the depressed state of the economy, you could get some really good deals on mutual funds right now with the money you would spend on bigger woofers. The car, and the sound system, are pretty good as it is. Drive it for awhile and see for yourself.

Whatever you do, do not stick anything on the car. Emblems, chrome door handles etc. Take it from someone who has learned from the mistake.

I would highly reccommend swapping all the interior lights with cool white LEDs. They look really nice. I just recently switched from red LEDs to white and I love it.

Welcome to TN, I think there is some kind of unwritten rule that you have to post pics before we are allowed to talk to you. Enjoy your time here. An even more enjoy da car!

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! Very much appreciated.

@dcemureviews: Thanks for the suggestions! I've moderated a number of forums and participate in enough of them to know the "search before you ask" etiquette, so I know how annoying that can be. lol. I'll be sure to use this thread as my update thread, too. Should be nice to see how the pictures evolve as I do things to my ride over the coming years. =)

@gdanaher: Thanks a lot! Regarding what you said about not being a mechanic, I completely agree. There are DIY projects I will want to undertake, but I'm enough of a realist to not take on more than I am confident I can handle. I'm as astute with computers as folks like you are with vehicles, so I

I guess you could say I'm young but I would perfer "ignorant" (which is why I'm interested in learning about this stuff) as opposed to foolish. I act on the side of caution and rational more than anything else and I certainly don't have deep pockets (though, I wish I did, but who doesn't?), so you won't find me updating my pictures here frequently, lol. I'm more of the "sit back and learn everything for a year" type of guy prior to spending money on something based on a half-hearted understanding, so I'm all for your recommendation of understanding what implementing a tool will result in prior to purchasing it.

Where a system goes, I'm a total audiophile, so there are certainly some features missing that I want to work with (such as the ability to tweak mids via the stock system, which drives me crazy since mids are crucial to a lot of the music I listen to). I'm not one of these hip-hop guys looking to annoy people a mile away with my bass, lol. I'm a classic rock/heavy metal guy, amature producer/hobbyist musician of 14 years, so the audio system will be a long journey of finding what's right for me, personally, in the car. I couldn't care less how things sound to people standing outside of my car so long as I'm satisifed with how things sound inside the car. =) At that, I also understand that the most expensive systems out there are definitely not the best, sans the total expense of a custom system. But enough babbling about that. It's pretty much the *only* thing I'm confident with making my own decisions about where a car is concerned.

Nice to know about what you recommended, and you're absolutely right about me learning that I can't gun it at a light. It feels hella good to be able to bolt up from 55 to 80 on the highway, though. I know there are faster cars than mine, but this is my first car that's anywhere near this powerful, so it feels great to me. I have no problems simply focusing on the presentation of the vehicle if there's really no reason to invest under the hood, so what you said is certainly valuable and I appreciate your feedback.

@Sean89: Thanks so much for the recommendation. Yeah, I'm not too keen on the chrome thing. At some point, I'll want to go with some different rims, but that's about all I plan on changing where anything metallic-looking is concerned. The lights are a good suggestion, too. I've seen a lot of cool ideas here so far that I wouldn't have thought of from all the pics posted. =)

Thanks again for the welcome so far, everyone!

-Stephen

LOL total thread derail.

I do not like the off-center license plates but having one is not necessarily bad looking.
