Lostsignals 2007 LE update thread

Thought this would have been discussed before, but couldn't find anything on it. Some of the paint on one of my mufflers has flaked off and I was wondering if anyone dealt with this? I think I'm just going to pick up some black caliper paint and give it a go. Or should I maybe just go for some spray paint? Eventually I may do rustproofing, primer, then paint. Has anyone tried completely repainting the factory mufflers?

Decided to take off the mufflers in order to paint them today. In the process now and will probably finish up tomorrow. I could post a DIY if anyone wanted to know exactly how to remove the mufflers.

lostsignal unless they're practically brand new, the mufflers are probably rusted on unless the installer used anti-sieze compound and lots of it. I'm guessing you paint your muffler for looks and not for durability or something - the problem with any paint on the mufflers is the sheet metal expands and contracts so much with the heat almost no paint will stick to them for long. No big deal if you dont mind repainting once in a while. If you wanted something permanent perhaps powder coating would be the way to go (not cheap).

If you are painting for durability, like my dad used to do, if they are made of stainless your mufflers may outlast the car. (On my 2002 V6 the owners manual says the exhaust system is warrantied for LIFE - Therefore the exhaust system on mine must be made of stainless.) If they are not stainless, they could rust out from condensation water inside, the usual cause of muffler demise. (When you start your car in the morning notice the water dripping from the tailpipe - this same water sitting inside it all night is what kills a muffler. Driving til hot blows out and evaporates all the water, until next time, of course.)

Is it ok if I just use this as an update thread from now on? Is it possible to change the title of the thread?

Got some LED's from superbrightleds yesterday and got them all in. I went with the cwhp6 LED's for the map lights, doors, and license plate. I got a 3022-cwhp2 for the dome light, WLED-cw5 for the trunk, and a 74-cwhp3 for the glove box. The glove box was a pain for the smallest and least important light of them all. The festoon dome bulb just barely fits length wise. It actually sits kind of on a diagonal, that's how tight it is. I hit around on the roof by the bulb to make sure it wouldn't fall out after hitting a bump. Very pleased with the lights overall.

I'll have pictures of the mufflers and lights at some point.
