Gen5 Ebay Denso Filters

I bought a set of air, cabin, and oil filters from Ebay. The seller said it all the filters are Denso. I believed the seller and purchased it for under $50. This included one air filter, one cabin filter, and three oil filters. I did compare it to prices of a local toyota dealership and I found it to be cheaper on Ebay. I took the air filter out of the box and compared to the Denso air filter which was installed at the dealership. It doesn't look anything close to the Denso one from the dealership. You be the judge.

Here's some pictures -

New Filter

If I were you, I wouldnt go through the trouble in finding OEM Denso filters for you car. If you want a excellent oil filter, go with the Mobil 1 Extended Performance. Be assured, it will exceed ur expectations. I use fram air filters as they are identical in filter mass to the OEM Denso. Dont rack ur brain at finding OEM.

As much as NJ can be irritating he is quite correct. Filtration is one of the most important things on your car. Ebay cheap deals can be very questionable. I would not even put that supposed oil filter or air filter on your car.

Just not worth the risk. Lots of re-badge on Ebay.

I've used Denso air and oil filter before -- I don't know why you suspect the items to be illegitimate. The looked similar to the items you photographed. You can get air filters almost anywhere and some of them will not look like what came with the vehicle or what the dealer sells. Just because it is made by Denso does not mean it will be the same as what the dealer sells. Those parts can be made by any company and then they just put the Toyota brand on it. Last I heard Toyota oil filters were made by Purolator.

The Denso oil filter was a bit weird though. It came with the gasket already greased and the rubber seal was round. Every other filter I've used has a flat gasket.

I think the oil filter cost me $4-5 (roughly same price as Napa Gold and Purolator Pure One). I don't remember what I paid for the air filter, maybe $10-15.

yeah, this seller seems very legit. What I'm wondering is that, is it worth it to get Mobil 1 Oil filter for $20 each, or just buy 10 of these OEM filters for $40 (only $4 each). I use Mobil 1 full synthetic. I don't drive much (3000-4000 miles in six months), but I've been doing oil changes every 6 months.
There is 2 options which I'm still debating:
a. Use Mobil 1 full synthetic (6qts $30) and Mobil 1 oil filter $20 - change oil & filter once a year
b. Use Mobil 1 full synthetic (6qts $30) and OEM oil filter $4 - change oil & filter every six months

PS: last time I used Mobil 1 oil with Fram oil filter because I couldn't find any good oil filter for my car ; it was the first time I did a DIY oil change . My next oil change would be in July

I think if you change your oil filter everytime you change your oil, then the less expensive option could be doable. If you are going to buy the 10-12 Mobil 1 filters and your plan is to change it once every two oil changes, then that's good for that options.

I don't understand how you can keep the same oil filter after you change your oil. Isn't all the dirty stuff still in the existing filter?

Where do you buy your Mobil 1 oil filter??? Here in Southern Calif, at Autozone, the Mobil 1 oil filters are from 10-12 dollars. (from my memory)
