Splash guard necessary?

During the recent floods we had here in the Northeast I wound up almost driving into a flooded street and lost the driver's side splash guard (the black panel on the bottom of the car) in the process.

Is the guard absolutely necessary or can I go without it? And if so, is it easy to replace by myself or should I just take it in somewhere?

Thanks.

It looks better if you have all 4, but you don't really need it, it's just rubber pieces. It's easy to replace, just unscrew the screws, put the guard and screw it back on.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, this is the panel that's covering the undercarriage of the car.

he's talking about the plastic guard thats covering the entire bottom of the front vehicle.... prevents scraps and other stuff from scraping essential parts.

I would get it replaced, to prevent rocks and impact from hurting or getting into your engine bay

I have an 06 xls and need the same piece for my driver's side as well. Anyone know a place to order on-line for cheap. I can try junkyards but don't have the time with three kids and a busy schedule. Any suggestions will be appreciated. TIA
