5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Wanted to share my experience today...was going to buy an LE V6 Camry today after setting the appointment and getting my cashiers check and financing together during the week.. but got a call saying that they sold it this morning before I left...guess it is somewhat my fault, I should have put a deposit on it but they never mentioned it so I thought I was okay.
Had a second one lined up that was around 800.00 more but was willing to pay the extra to get what I wanted, so I called that dealer up and said that I was going to come out and take a look at it (really was going to buy it but did not want to let on) but was then told they were not going to honor the price quote they gave me (I got quotes from several dealers through edmunds.com). They said it was going to be a $1000 more (so 1800 more than the first) and when I asked why they would not honor their original quote they told me that they had met their quota for the month and did not have to sell me the car at that price; said that when they gave me the price quote they had not met their quota and had wanted to make a sale, they gave me that quote about 2 weeks ago, so it was within this month. Anyways, what dealer says that...is that anyway to treat a customer. I told them that I was willing to buy today and they said they did not care they were not going to honor the quote.
had a different dealership check around and there are no more 10's in the color and options that I want...so I am seriously thinking about buying another brand if toyota is going to act this way.
The dealer is hardly a representation of how Toyota treats its customers. This isn't too bad actually - it sounds like the dealer was actually honest and telling you the real reason. Color isn't that important - when I was buying my Camry 3 years ago, I decided that I'd take a black, white or magnetic grey one. The black Camry was the one they could "deliver" quickest to me and she's in my garage now 3 years later.

My advice is don't budge from the price you are willing to pay. The salesperson just let you get away. Hunt down another Camry and buy it somewhere else. Curious, have you compared your quotes with Fitz automall. You may want to look at their website first. http://www.fitzmall.com/
I locked myself out of my car today. So I had to pry open the door and use a metal rod to unlock it. Now I have scratches in the top edge of the window. Furthermore, when I unlocked the door, my friend yanked the door and the corner of the door hit my lip, so I have a busted lip as well.

Man that sucks, it sounds like your day was worse than mine, at least I am not hurt...
well emotionally
Yazovets you are right, a few crappy dealers does not mean all of toyota is bad

Yea... What a day. It's alright. I just need to touch up that area. Plus I need to patch up the weather stripping cuz that ripped. I'm afraid it's going to leak because of that.

That is messed up. If I was a car dealer, I would be focusing on selling more cars...regardless of whether or not I met the quota. I've noticed more and more dealerships (specifically Toyota...even before the recall crisis) that they are getting stingy and greedy and are TOTALLY UNWILLING to work with their customers on prices.
I would find another dealer, clearly they do not want your business and do not give it to them. Did you speak to the General Manager of the dealership? If not, inform the General Manager of what happened and let him or her know that you will not be purchasing a vehicle from his or her dealership because of the cocky service you received. Let him or her know that you were preparing to purchase on that same day and you had your finances in order and the dealership could have had a check for $25,000 or so (however much your car is), but will never get it now. Even if the General Manager offers to remedy the situation, do not accept it unless it is a deal you absolutely cannot refuse (where you know they are losing money off of it).
I do agree however Toyota does not treat their customers in such a way, you must remember that dealerships are INDIVIDUAL companies who sell Toyota's products and take a commission. If I had to say anything, this was more of the dealership and not Toyota. You should call Toyota in addition to the General Manager and report the situation to them.

The 2011 Camry's are out already, so they might not have any of the 2010's left, you would have got a better price on last years. Do you live in NC. If you do you could buy from JTB Toyota in Asheville, I can get you hooked up!

I would go anyway, and like mentioned above speak to the Gen. Manager. When i went to get my car (Although it was used) I still got one hell of a deal, because i wanted to walk away. And he said WAIT and gave me a price i could not say NO too.

it pretty much seems like the 2011 is going to be the way I am going to have to go now..I tried to think of another color I could get or if I could live without some of the options, but ended up deciding to get exactly what I want if I am going to be spending this amount of money. With that said I do live in NC ( I am in Raleigh) and would be willing to drive to asheville to get a car, we go once a year anyways to the Biltmore so we could make a weekend trip out of it.
I had thought about going to the dealer anyways but I feel that even if they honored the deal now I would not be willing to give them any of my money. I think that it is a good idea to speak to the general manager to make sure he/she knows about the situation .
