Hi guys,
I have a V6 2010 toyota camry. I'm wondering what kind of synthetic oil should I use. I heard Mobile 1 is synthetic oil is not as good as before. And, ppl said Shell synthetic is pretty good. Should i go for it? but Shell synthetic comes in 5w40, whereas, my manual said to use 5w30 oil. Does it make any difference?

What motor oil you "should" use? well, Toyota think you "should" stick with Toyota brand motor oil. You can use any brand motor oil, it's not going to matter much since you "should" stick with the oil change interval as suggested in your owner manual. But if you "want" to run synthetic oil, any brand would do, personally I prefer mobil1 because it's readily available at local walmart, and i have also seen good UOA from penzoil platinum, if you have deep pocket then try amsoil.

I did a lot of research on synthetic oil. All in all, Amsoil would be at the top of the list but the cost is high. I use Valvoline Synpower Full Synthetic 5w-20 because of the cold start protection. It ranks very high in protection and only costs $22 per gallon at Walmart. I also use the Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter and change both at 4000 miles. But its up to you. If you want the best, go with Amsoil. Use the weight that the engine calls for. I use 5w20 because i have the I4 engine.

I suggest Amsoil 0W30, best of the best!
Normal Service(3) – Up to 35,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. So 1 oil change per year.
The OP has a 2010 brand spanking new car, unless he doesn't care about the warranty otherwise I would stick with the suggested oil change interval till the warranty expired.

If you're interested in cold start protection, then try 0W-20/30/40, 0W have lower pour point therefore "should" provide better cold start protection.
