Electronic throttle body

What a cool website. I absolutly love my toyota. I just had one quick question. I have a 2006 camry LE. It was recomended at the place where I get my car serviced to get my trottle body serviced. The throttle is electronic. Is this something I can do my self? and how?

to the nation, and thanks for the compliment about TN!

Let me move your thread to the Camry section so you can get a better answer to your question. I'd also suggest that you use the search tool there to look through the Camry forum for past threads about throttle bodies. Don't forget to check out the sticky threads there too.....

yes, you can do it yourself. i assume you know how to get to and clean throttle bodies in general, so i'm just going to describe getting the plate open.

if you're concerned about damaging the motor that controls the throttle body plate position... one way is to turn the key to on (but DO NOT START!) and use a brick or something heavy to hold down the gas pedal, which will open the throttle body plate.

the other way is the conventional way: just to pry it open with something non-marring and use something again non-marring to prop it open. i've done this several times to no ill effect (at least none that i know of) but do both methods at your own risk.

It has about 65,000 miles. I recently had gotten my transmission fluid flushed on the toyota. They also recomended throttle body service. I say no thanks and I looked into it for myself. It didn't look that difficult to do. The only problem is I am tring to figure out the proper way to dismantle everything. The electronic seems a bit different to take apart then some of the older generations. I think it might be good preventive maintence to have this done. I just don't think it is worth 100 bucks!! Thank you guys for all the help so far. I will post picture tomorrow.

I think you need to look at the cost of replacing any throttle body components before you start taking it apart. I would leave it alone unless you are having a problem. You can probably access the intake by removing the duct work. More than that and you are asking for trouble IMO.

easiest way to "service" your throttle body is remove the intake hose get an old toothbrush and some throttle body cleaner hold it open shoot some cleaner all around it on the inside of course and use the toothbrush to clean all the crap out then again shoot some cleaner in there untill its shiny! your car might not start right away because of the cleaner. but it will after a couple of trys! good luck and by the way $100 at your dealer is alot better then $179 at ours. lol
