Hey everyone
had the camry since nov 09 but wanted to wait till we got the gas pedal issue resolved before we did any modding.
First mod was tonight. Got some HIDs and installed them
Im sure some of you have found this spot to hide the ballast but if not here is where I put mine
and here it is with the plastic cover back on
You cant even tell they are installed
Here is a before and after
Lets here what you think
Thanks
Bernie
hmmm... really never thought of that location... hahaha
But I got slim ballasts, so I can tuck it inbetween the headlights and the front support
Good job... seems like you don't have a relay, I suggest you get one.
i think i have mine at that same spot... its a good spot actually any ballast could fit there
i have mine tightened with 1 nut/bolt... the ballast doesent move at all
Nice hiding spot, much better than taking off bumper and stuff. My DDM slim version will be here next week so looks like I'll be mounting the same place as well, great job!

Geez what's with the obsession of hiding the ballasts? I just throw my ballasts somewhere inside. Being "exposed" has no effect at all - they still work 3 years and counting.

Thanks everyone
Whats the relay for?? If I need it I will def get one, more info please.
Yazovets - i hid mine because it keeps the engine bay clean, purely cosmetic for me.
As far as the kit it was just a kit I got off ebay, I think they are being referred to on here as squirrel spotters? Which I think means they aim high? I drove it around the block last night no flashers and shes driving it right now 830pm and I told her to let me know if she gets flashed because they seemed kinda high.
Yes same side for other ballast.
They are 35 watts, 8K Iceburg blue, no brand im sure
I just wanted something better than stock and so far not dissappointed, we'll see how they hold up
Thanks again
Bernie
Looks great and that is a very good location to hide the ballasts. But doesn't the ballast get warm? Seems like some airflow would help to keep it cool.
Squirrel spotters are defined in this thread: HID info . For the courtesy of other drivers, please cover these up. They are a little bit of a pain but not too bad.

First off nice camry, i have the same color but only an LE
I checked out those threads, Thanks for those.
But so I understand what i am bending are those little flaps inside the headlamp and you can get to them by removing the actual light bulb??
Thanks alot, I saw the pictures but being new to this car I wasnt sure what I was looking at
Also still want to know what the relay is for? I was thinking it might have something to do with supplying the right about of volts to the HIDs but unsure.
Thanks
Bernie

Thanks for the compliment.
In most cases you need to remove the headlight assembly from the car to fix the squirrel spotters, but don't just bend down the flap. There is a small, rectangular hole that is just behind the flap that needs to be covered with something (One common method is to get a soda can. Cut a sliver of aluminum that is just slightly larger than the hole and cover the hole with it. Use JB Weld to keep the aluminum cover in place and wait until it hardens. Then fold down the flap).
When the HIDs initially ignite, they require a high voltage (the ballasts help with this). The initial quick draw is far more than the stock Camry's wiring is designed for and over time can cause problems. The relay basically provides a way for the ballasts to get this initial bit of electricity directly from the battery instead of through the stock harness. Many members on the TN forum have HIDs and probably about half have a relay and the other half do not.
If you want to go the safe way, get the relay. It is a little more hassle to route around your engine bay but it will ensure that all your wiring stays intact long term.
exactly what thrawnis, if you drive up to your garage you'd notice two boxes on the top left and right, people say that its used to see signs, but it also really blinds drivers because its just high enough to hit mirrors...well not a lot of people flash, like me i see civics blinding me on the road, i just curse them out in my head and keep driving, change lanes...w/e LOL ummmm i'd highly reccomend relay harness though, keep your stock plugs safe haha
and if you guys want to get hid's i'd reccomend ddmntuning.com << very good product and they are having a mad sale right now, i think 25 bucks...i will have them running in my fogs once i have them retrofitted XD
