Gen6 Front Doors pretty much slamming all the time

I am not sure the best way to describe the issue, but here goes. If I need to clarify, let me know.

I have a 2007 LE with 59k mi. Whenever I close either front door, I must do it very easily with an exact amount of pressure or the door pretty much slams shut. It makes a distinctly & uncomfortably louder noise than the normally muffled clunk (best way to describe it) I get from my rear doors. I get the same "muffled clunk" on any door in my 2001 camry, and any door in the many 2009 and 2010 camrys i have rented this year.

The only way i can really describe the sound is that it sounds how most american car doors sound when they close versus the sound japanese car doors make when they close.

When I am inside the car and my GF closes the door, she hasn't gotten the technique down, so she always closes the door normally. The noise from it is quite loud and you can really feel the air pressure change in your ears. The door is definitely resonating after it closes, not stopping with that comforting "clunk" I am used to in japanese cars. If the door is ever so gently pulled closed, it will make that sound, but if the exact amount of force is not used, it will slam or fail to latch.

Every time I rent a Camry, I have to go back and close the door again since i am so used to feathering the door closed.

I am not sure if adjusting the positions of the door latches will help, or if there are taller rubber door stops/bumpers i can install. What could have worn out to make this happen?

According to the Carfax, the car was not in any accidents. I bought it as a Toyota certified used car back in sept.

Any advice you can offer?

take off the door panel and lay down some sound dampening on the door and door skin. This will help give it a more solid thud when closing the door, not to mention a quieter ride

I like leaving my window a little open, and it always rattles when I slam the door, but that's ok. That air pressure is normal but I swear it has an effect on the whole shutting the door process, not to mention blowing your eardrums if you stay in the car. In my old 91 pickup the door won't shut without slamming it with all the windows shut tight, it's that tight, I keep the window cracked. When I slam that with the window down it has a good built in Japan resonating metal ring to it.

Funny you mention this, that Toyota plant in CA that just shut down, the GM workers in the old days, disgruntle, used to put empty soda bottles in the doors of trucks so they would rattle like crazy. That was the first year they made the 6th gen, you never know.

Keep in mind, these cars are about 80% American parts, it's an American car, it's going to do the things that American cars do. Your going to have to line some other cars up next to it and start opening and shutting doors. My 09 LE has a fairly noisy door shut but that's fine with me, seems more like a thump noise with the window shut, sometimes the air pressure or wind catches it and so I give it a pretty good slam shut.
