5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a somewhat of a disaster, I let my friend drive my Toyota Camry 2004 with the e-brake on for about 10 miles. While I was driving my drunk friends Accord. We were not going faster than 50. Once we were at our apartment, and as we were switching our cars all of us noticed a putrid smell coming from one of the cars, we thought it was the smell of burning tires. But once i got into my Toyota and drove off to find another parking spot I noticed that my brake was really loose and i have to pretty much floor the brake to actually stop. The parking brake works better than the regular.
So here is my question to you fellow Toyota lovers,
How bad could the damage be? Given that the brake pedal only works when floored.
And what other parts could have been damaged besides the disk.
The rear brakes are shot, but that's only part of the problem. The spindle and wheel bearing also took a bad shot from the heat and if they aren't already cooked, they will fail shortly. After ten miles the whole wheel was hot, may have ruined the tire as well, and the center drum/disk was probably glowing in the dark. I've seen this happen. BTW, your car has brakes, not breaks, and it matters when we read your post title. You need new friends.

Gen5's have very soft brakes compared to Accords which have very sensitive brakes. I know.. my family's owned both. My aunt almost slammed her head on the steering wheel braking with my accord when she drove it for the first time because she was so used to the Gen5.

Really I dont really notice it at all. I would say its about the same ... i think?
All i know is , the altima's have very sensitive brakes. That is all
oh ya about the e-brake situation ... I wonder if driving with the ebrake on caused and transmission problems. It is extra strain but im sure its relatively small to what the transmission can actually handle ?
Now that I think about it again, a bell is supposed to ring occasionally to indicate that the parking brake is engaged. So either your friend was drunk, wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was being negligent, or a combo of the three
Thinking about it deeper... why'd you let your friend drive your car when your friend could've driven your other friend's car? Always stick with your own car unless it's absolutely necessary.. that way the most you can do is blame yourself.

Thats what i originally thought but I wasnt too sure if the gen5 had the indicator beeps. Im pretty sure it did but its been a while since i drove it.
And doesnt the gen5 have a ebrake handle which should be UP ?
also it has the indicator light on the dash ...

Ahhh... forgot, gen5... but you still didn't answer the question of why you let your friend drive your car when he could driven your other friend's car

So it may just be paranoia
You probably won't see it anymore nowadays, but you should see someone drive a car with power brakes for the first time.
