Im wondering if anyone here has used a T-Harness for a remote start install here.
It should save time but where do I find one ? other than ebay, there is 2 listings but im not completely sure if I should get it or not .
Anyone know where to get one?
Or if its worth it? Im in canada so shipping is a bit more so the harness will be 40$ bucks or so .
And if its strictly a ignition harness, Im going to be saving myself from splicing 5-6 wires at most. Any one here done a remote starter yourself?
I know I;m going to get a lot of "take it to a professional" , and yes I did make a thread a bit back but right now the dollar is up and im going to be ordering a remote starter for the gen5 and gen6.
Already did two installs, one on my accord with an immobilizer, and one on a chevy savana van with passlock 2 (complete joke, so easy to bypass).
These installs were done pretty much straight up, no modules or nothing. Splicing every wire.
So I also have a question for the people who did it themselves ... do you recommend the bypass modules? How exactly does it work, how many wires do i need to connect? I think it also reduces install time? and it gets all the lights, door triggers, trunk etc using the oem system?

i would definitely get a T-harness if there's one available. If I had known there was one available when I installed mine, i'd have paid a decent amount for one! It'd be so much easier and cleaner to use one.
what did you search for to find it on ebay?

Yeah for sure it does get tricky splicing the ignition harnesses and what not and soldering is a pain !!!
But nvm I just searched up Toyota t-harness on ebay , but thye dont have ones that will fit the camrys
doesn't say camry, but i imagine if it works for all the other vehicles (esp the solara) it should work for the camry.
Thanks ! Now getting two is going to cost me like 80$ ! almost the price of a remote starter unit :S ,
anyways hey when you did your install, did you have to disarm the factory alarm? Does the camrys even have factory alarms :S , they have the alarm light but i dont ever recall hearing it go off when ever i tested for it ...
also, did oyu use any modules? and is there an immobilizer for the gen5 ... for some reason I have a feeling it does ... but then again it might not :s

gen6 camry se --> viper 5501 + xk05 + maybe a tharness
gen5 camry se --> viper 5301 or 5101 (might order the 5301 and swap it with my 5101 in my accord ) , no module, just straight up install, and universal immobilizer bypass (if it has an immobilizer -_-)
LE05, exactly how simple was the install? i know you are pretty good with electrical
From my experience, its not really that hard at all ! With the amount of info floating around the net and www.the12volt.com, it makes it that much easier even without those modules!!!
Honestly, my very first remote start was on my accord, I did the homework, went through the wires. And got it all connected (not tucked away) within a good hour - two.
The only problem I ran into was that all viper modules are programmed in manual tranmission mode, which requires a basic procedure to be done before you can remote start it (basically its a procedure that verifys that the car is in neutral). I say its the soldering, and tucking and what not that takes a bit more time.
My second install was about two months later (just two weeks ago) in my fathers work van he just picked up. Picked up a refurbished viper 5101 for 75$ and it works flawlessly. AFter taking the seats out of the van and the dog box for more room. It took me a good, 4 hours total to get it running.
So if you have some electrical knowledge, which im pretty sure you do ! it really isnt that hard!
ps. in my diy when I make one, i will be leaving out a few things such as,
trunk popper (until i figure out all the extra relay wiring that is needed)
horn (its just plain annoying)
door triggers (only needed for alarm)
and rear window defogger (until I find out which wire it is and the extra stuff needed to make it work).
Basic lock, unlock, remote start, car finder (if horn is hooked up) should work. Will also be able to lock/unlock while the car is running since the oem controls dont work.
Im hoping to order my stuff soon, and hoping it comes in so I can get it done for sometime between apr 27th - may 3rd .
Sorry got finals until that week
omg, can you do this for the gen6? i really want to get a remote start, and since mine came with an alarm system, the 5101 is perfect for my car lol XD and tell me when you get that trunk popper in too :]] i would really appreciate it.

No problem! I should be ordering my stuff sometime this week, I ordered additional relays for the extra goodies, such as the trunk release, and the rear window defroster

For the prices, comparing the viper units they sell to other online companies such as sonic electronix, they are very comparable if not a bit cheaper. Also installing a remote starter is much easier, and over all there is less complications with the factory system.
With an alarm, there is a bit more wiring, and depending on your location if it is really needed or not. I have yet to install an alarm my self but I'm pretty sure I would be able to do it. It's just it is not that necessary in my area and in my situation.
