5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
What is the quickest and fastest 1/4 mile and trap speed out of a stock and modified 5th and 6th generation Toyota Camry? I'm looking into knowing what the 2GR-FE is capable of at the drag strip. I have been reading and digging here the last few days as well as checking the Austrailian sites. It appears that 13.8 (Member name *Mutant*) may have the quickest time but I am not seeing any other Camrys posting times near this. I previously sent him email about the 'tune' he stated he had on that car but didn't get a response.
Also, it is not appearing that the TRD supercharged Aurions are that much quicker due to the FWD. That's for another thread though. Just curious as I want to use the 6th generation Camry as a benchmark for my 2010 Toyota RAV4. Thanks!

I purchased it in October of last year but haven't had ample time to test it at the strip. I probably have about 20 or so runs since the tracks closed and just opened up.
If I may state my observations and personal opinions here. I'm not saying that my statements are true... these are merely my observations and opinions.
From looking at your figures posted, I would be thinking that it's not actually an increase in power here that is giving you such good quarter mile times. Your trap speed is a primary indicator of this. Higher trap speeds are a good indication (as a general rule, not as a hard fact) of your power-to-weight. The V6 Camry/Aurion can acheive a similar or higher trap speed on the quarter which would indicate similar power-to-weight ratios. Regardless of how good or bad your 1/4 mile time is, the trap speed usually doesn't vary by too much.
The 1/4 mile time on the other hand can be greatly affected by how you launch. Your RAV4 has the upper hand here in that you can gain more traction for your launch. The 'strength' of your launch is indicted quite well in your 60 footer times.
So with that said, if the Camry could launch harder, I reckon that in stock form, it could easily attain a sub-14 second run. I personally don't think any power modification is going to show its effects on these cars until it can put that to the ground from a standing start.
Good points DJKor! This is why I am trying to capatalize on the strength of the launch with the next modification in mind and do a higher stall speed torque converter upgrade. BUT.....people like member name *Mutant* was able to achieve a trap speed of 103mph or so. He mentioned a 'tune' that he had done and he said he ran with the A/C on. Whatever it is that works is what I'm looking for. Tunes, weight reduction (Ex: Low gas tank, seat removal), lighter wheels, lightweight pulley, etc is what I'd love to borrow from the faster Camrys here. So I'm really focused on the trap speeds that may be posted up and what have been done (Disregarding FWD does help vs AWD with more power to the ground). I have already sent email to TRD in Australia -->http://www.trd.com.au/TRD/#main/home and called USA headquarters. They ain't helping with info on the supercharger. Hate to supercharge it without an intercooler/aftercooler anyways. So looking at N/A options from you folks.
Weight reduction definitely, maybe removing roof racks, the huge spare tire, rear seats (for drag times only), and random things around the car. Possibly look into a custom exhaust system, high-flo cat's, removing resonator, running custom downpipe/headers maybe even.
You could run a simple Zex wet kit, like 50-75 shot with the Zex tuning software should be safe. Maybe get a SAFCII or some other simple piggyback and get a tune going with your intake/exhaust mods, that usually yields great results.
Lowering the car maybe increase aerodynamics possibly too, not sure by how much though. I believe Whiteline makes sway bar kits for the rav4 also.

Thanks for your post. I searched the Gen5/6 forum for anyone that have used nitrous and their results but could not find any. Besides *Mutant*, I tried to see about anyone getting a tune on their Camry as well. Would you happen to know who may have done either and their 1/4 mile result?
afaik the only things done to gen 6s are 2 i4 turbo setups(1st has been sold to a tC owner, 2nd to a camry owner), 2 v6 turbo setups(1st one is on hold bc of blown motor and 2nd is still in the works from what i last heard), and 1 camry that had a custom tune(mutant). besides that there is no known members with NOS or SC.
oh interesting. i forgot he had a bottle in there. i remember now. paul now that u daily the camry u should go ahead with ur old plan we talked about once.
