HELP!! TRANSMISSION problem?

Hi,
please if any tranny person could help direct me into any direction please post.........

I got a 2002 Toyota Camry, that needed U140E transmission rebuilt...... that i decided to do(lol) ive rebuilt many in the past but never a toyota......

ok my problem is, (NO-reverse) but all gears forward work fine......i just installed it a few hours ago after i rebuilt the whole transmission....clutches ,pistons ,seals,etc..... filled it up with fluid ...........while still fresh and new on the hoist i put it in forward(works no problem) but in REVERSE___nothing___ like as if it were in neutral???? if i rev it high it slowly begins to spin with car on the hoist ??

Now does anyone think it could be a solenoid issue??

or any suggestions --- anyone?? thanks in advance!!

tony

It could be the solenoid, or a seal you installed incorrectly, or the linkage is maladjusted and it really is in neutral. You may be the only one who can answer the questions because you know the level of the rebuild. Cleaned everything, thoroughly? Checked function of solenoids before installing? Possible to install anything backwards or sap two parts in error?

Before installing I pulled everything out in line and cleaned the reusable parts and replaced the seals and clutches , ..... The solenoids I got a 12v plug and put power to them to see if they clicked... Wich they did... Now if I had put a seal wrong ... I guess maybe that could have happened but don't think I did ? Would a faulty solenoid not make it move ?

Why would Forward gears work and shift normal but no reverse ... Has anyone had issues with a faulty solenoid? What are the symptoms ?

Sorry hope someone can tell me if they had an issue like this ...

Does it spin in the right direction?

Can you verify the correct solenoids are getting 12v from the transmission ECU? So all clutch pack clearances were checked and operation verified with compressed air?

I did not check the ecu .... The plug from the computer , I guess ill check that... And give you an update....

As for the 12v to the solenoid I had them on the bench giving them 12v to hear them click.... This is my 13th transmission rebuild believe it or not but my first Toyota tranny.... I did know before taking on the job there was no first gear and no reverse , but after the rebuild all gears work accept reverse ??

Really in my head I'm hoping its a valve body malfunction but ....in reality I may only be able to know by taking out the tranny again?? Oh man!

I rebuilt all pistons , but maybe the reverse seal pinched ?? But its an easy seal to change other than the front clutch.

I want to know if anyone ever had a valve body or solenoid issue... And what were the causes of the issue ...for example no forward or in my case no reverse .

Sorry guys hope someone can give me a some kind of help ,anything is appreciated and thanks for responding ....

You guys rule

Talking

Ok got the oil pan off, and then valvebody ....air tested it ....under low presure because all the clutches were engaging .... So I put it to 35psi and finally heard a leak on the direct clutch

It was a minor crack on the second teflon seal on the transaxle cover (thank god it was very easy to fix with the tranny in the car) lucky I didn't scrap any of the old seals lol

Thanks guys who helped!
