If you put a dab of rubber cement on it, think it would prevent that?

JB Weld should hold it in until the car catches fire and gets over 600F. Thats when it should melt off if I remember correctly; but then again, that should be the least of your worries when that happens

Rubber cover? Do you mean the handle or the piece where it articulates?

I've had the entire handle assembly come loose before and it would wobble side to side but not any rubber cover.
