How to improve Handling? 02 camry XLE?

2002 Camry XLE, 4 cylinder. About 97K miles, decent yokohoma v4s tires and have a 19mm rear sway bar (whiteline).

I just feel the handling of the car way too "loose" (for lack of a better word) feels and unsafe in turns. Sort of a floating feeling like a boat. I don't have any suspension issues...

Questions:

1. Since I am close to 100K will changing struts/spring help? Could it be just the struts? or just the springs?

2. What struts/spring is recommended to improve handling? (I don't want to lower etc). (and where to buy?)

3. What's this poly bushing for the steering rack? (and how much work is it to put on?)

1. Do the struts.

2. KYB Struts...and since you don't want to lower your only option for stiffer springs are the SE springs... Other wise you'll have to lower it for a better suspension. You can order everything online.

Two of my struts on the 2005 is leaking oil, one tire is in miserable shape due to this. The car has only 68K miles and I bought it with 35 on it. It seems the quality of the original struts are questionable, never had to do this repair on any of my cars up to 120K miles-I treat them very well. Am ordering 4 KYB's and will see how things change.

The SE's come with KYB from factory, and the only aftermarket option available, aside from coil overs. They're stiff and nice. I have lowering springs with them..love them and i do a lot of tracking with my car. So for daily use they will work just fine.

89molavi,
Where are you ordering the KYB's from? and what springs are you getting?

Are the SE springs the only option? (if i don't want to lower).

Are the struts and springs the same across all 2002 to 2005 Camry SE's? Part numbers would help. Thx

I have looked and the best prices for KYB's are rockauto and amazon. The part numbers are on their websites. I am just getting the inserts, the springs are not broken and I am not going to change it.

The labor is kind of high. I wish they had quikstruts for these but don't know why they don't have them. I could take the front off and give it to a shop to compress/replace, the rear is more involved. I don't feel comfortable doing them with a crappy spring compressor.

As far as other years/not sure. Even on the 2005, if you look at the OEM sites the US vs Japan built have different parts listed, but checked with the KYB website and they give the same serial number for all 2005 models.

89molavi,
So you have an Camry LE and you are just changing your struts?

I looked at https://www.toyotapartsbarn.com and they list springs and struts for the "SE".

Front SE springs is 60 bucks and struts are pricy $107. I didn't look at the rears.

Punks_Not_Dead5,
Are SE factory struts same as KYBs sold by rockauto/amazon? (Unlike the SE factory springs are propitiatory and can be got only from dealers.)

And I take it that 2002 SE struts/spring will fit right into an2002 XLE without need to change the strut mounts or anything else. ?

Yes, but i wouldn't buy from the dealer, they'll charge you a boat load.. order them online or find a suspension shop in your area.

Yes the SE springs will bolt onto the XLE. And yes the SE springs are your only option without lowering. There might be a difference between V6 and I4 springs, but not 100% sure. I know there is when it comes to lowering springs
