5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Traded the 2008 SE stick 2.4 for a 2010 SE auto 3.5. Miss the stick, but love the new power and smooth, quiet ride. Off the line, there's just something so visceral about working a clutch. I bet my 0-50' or 0-100' times might have actually been quicker. I'm not really sure. But this 3.5 is a real sleeper. I haven't gotten really heavy in to the throttle yet, (trying to break it in properly) and it has already surprised me with its willingness to move.
The SE I-4 manual had 33,500 miles when I traded it in. I rolled a lot of negative equity in from a previous car (Dodge Magnum sxt) when I bought the SE I-4 manual. That, coupled with the 0.0% financing deal they have now, only raised my payment by $9 a month. What's interesting is that my insurance actually went down with the new, more powerful car. The trade in price they gave me coupled with what I am saving in financing charges for what I owed on the I-4, over the 3 years I still had to pay on it, broke me even with it. As for the "deal" I got on the new one... I think it was fair. I might have been able to haggle for window tinting or something, but really didn't want to go through the hassle. I got the 2-year service pack for free, and a discount on GAP for being a repeat Toyota customer. Now I'm paying just for the car I'm driving. No Magnum residual, No financing.
Suggested breakl in is somewhere in the owner's manual. I usually take it easy, varying the rpm and speed for the first 2000 miles. Then I change the oil and get a little further into the throttle for the next 3000 miles, then change the oil. After that, I drive it like I stole it and change the oil with full syn every 5K.
Was $500 and change (due to the negative equity rolled in from the Magnum). Now is $510. I know that's still a lot, but I was gonna be at $500 for the next 3 years with the I-4 anyway.
Not really planning too much for the car. I dropped in a K&N and am thinking about doing the intake valve bypass mod (not sure, any FHE would be appreciated) If it's only for sound... I'll probably leave it the way it is. If it actually improves throttle response... who knows? I've also been looking at the ultra-racing 4-point brace for under the front end, as well as their rear sway. Anyone bought from them? Any good distrbuters near Arizona? And I'll probably get around to taking the SE and Camry emblems off of the trunk.
sounds like good plans and a good deal. u should really try the k&n intake if ur after some noise and what u think might be more response(because u want to hear the sound more lol). its around 200 shipped.
should also look into a nice exhaust for it.
as far as distributors u can contact UR directly or try ebay.
Not really looking for more noise. To the contrary, I think it's amazing how quiet the v6 is compared to the i4, and I like that.
I looked at the 2 intake runners. The one for low rpm's looks pretty restrictive, the one up top seems more direct; like it could supply more air, more directly. I just wonder if it will rob any low end torque if it's open all of the time.
I also never thought that color made such a difference. Even though it's the same car... the new white one looks so much different than the old mag grey one. Yeah... I know the fogs and grill have changed a little bit, but at every angle, the white just looks like a different car entirely.
everyone that's had the front strut and rear sway installed were pretty happy with the slightly stiffer feel of the car... I think it's a good performance mod
yea v6 is quiet. u can remove both of them. i know someone who did and didn't really feel any difference in the low end. worst case u can add it back on.
