TPMS and swapping OEM Wheels

My apologies if this question has been asked before.

I picked up some OEM 17" SE Alloy wheels to replace my OEM 16" Alloy wheels on my 2009 Toyota Camry XLE. What should I expect/plan for when getting these new wheels installed? Is the TPMS that much of a pain to swap over? Is this something I have to go the dealership for or will a competent tire shop be able to do it?

If it's too much of a PITA, I won't do it and will just sell the 17" wheels and keep my 16" wheels. I'm already going to be in for $600 with new tires and really don't want to drop another several hundred bucks to deal with the TPMS.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

any tire shop can do that work... I think it's a good idea what you're doing

dismount the tires and 16" wheels, transfer sensors to new $600 tires and wheels... sell XLE tires and rims separately

Thanks for your response...that's what I figured. Nowadays tire shops deal with all sorts of factory TPMS. Do you think I should sell my XLE tires are rims separately? The tires are new Michelin tires and I feel like somewhat of a fool to by new tires when I've got new tires on my 16" wheels. Part of me just wants to hold onto the 17" wheels until my 16" tires wear down, then do the swap and sell the 16" wheels.

You got your answer. Please, please search before you start a thread on any other questions you might have in the future.

Read the stickies. You could have gotten your answer without ever starting a thread.

My apologies if this thread is redundant. I did do a search before I started this thread. Didn't see any stickies regarding this exact issue but I could have missed them. I'm sure every almost every topic on this forum has been covered 10 times over but I'll search a little harder next time.

I just stopped by my local tire shop up the road from my house. I've bought tires from them before for my Nissan Murano. He said as long as the TPMS is a stem based system, he wouldn't charge me to swap it over if I bought tires from him. He said some of the systems are a band that is fit around the inside of the wheel so it's specific to the wheel. But he is pretty sure Toyota uses a stem mounted system. He quoted me $480 out the door for the Falken Ziex ZETire 912 but said he would give me the new 918s. That price includes the swapping of the TPMS. I've been reading up on the Falken tires and for the price, they seem to do all right. A lot of folks love the 512s though.

The TPMS is indeed a stem based system.

For the price with the tires, that is a good find......

I told Discount Tire to take their price and blow it up their a**.
