lack of power until 4000rpm 07 camry

Hello all,

I purchase an 07 camry 4 cylinder with 17,000 miles on it and now has 45,000. It seems to not have much power until it hits 4000 rpm and then it goes pretty good. It has been like this since I bought it. Is this normal? It is almost like it is trying to take off in second gear, but I know it is in first. It doesn't have much pick up if I try to speed up in town either, almost like I need to hit the gas hard enough for it to downshift before it moves. My moms 2.5L altima will run circle around it. It is almost like the car is clearing its throat and then it goes.

Thanks

How have you been driving it? The car will react and change the way it shifts to how the car is being driven, The camry is set up to be a fuel efficient car so this si what is originally programed in the computer, but if you start driving hard then the car will react to that and change the shift mode, but it will also change the amount og gas that is being used

My wife mostly drives it, so it gets babied, but it still just feels like the timming is really retarted until 4k then it's like a switch is thrown and it comes alive. I did drive it for about a month and just thought I was getting use to the slow response.

I also have the same car as you. When i first got it i noticed its a steddy rise in power, then it just kicks in. like ..vrooooooooom VROOOM typa thing. Ive read numerous places that this is normal and as 510 stated, it helps save on fuel as its original design was to be fuel efficiant. If its such a serious issue, ive read and noticed myself that resetting the ECU helps.

Friend, you could have had a V6. Really, pull the positive connector off the battery and let it sit for a half hour to allow it to forget its past, reconnect, and drive the hell out of it for an hour or two, and see if works better for you. A little gas treatment and some RxP couldn't hurt either.

You are right, I could have gotten the v6, but I didn't. My wife drives it and she is happy with it so it is what it is. I just wanted to see if I might of had an issue with it or if there was a v-tec type setup on it. I have put a couple tanks of premium and injector cleaner through it when I was driving it. If I have a need for speed I take my mustang out. This site is awesome! I have never seen so many views and replies to a post in such a short time frame. Thanks for the info, I guess I will tell my wife to punch it on Fridays so when I drive on the weekend it is a little more responsive.

Thanks again

Check to see if your car has had this TSB done. It cured the same symptoms in my 08 i4 SE.
