I purchased a CPO 2009 Camry XLE i4 a few weeks back. 12K miles. Dealer offered me a "bumper-bumper" warranty that adds to my certified warranty for $1,000. this warranty would take the place of the 36K bumper warranty, so I would get another 4 years and 64K miles for $1,000. what do you think?
to confirm: I would get a 7 year/100K mile full/bumper warranty for $1,000. It would end in May 2016 or 100K miles.
I purchased 7y/100k extended warranty for 1800 dollars with my 08 LE,
cancel at around 10k, so get about 1600 dollars back.
now , at 44k , I have to replace front 2 struts. Dealer normally charge
at least 6xx + tax. the dealer did good will on parts so i paid 302.5 for labor and alignment.
at 49k miles, left rear one starts leaking. I'll wait a little while, since i have to pay
almost 700 dollars all myself this time.
I think it all depends on how lucky you are, but u never know. If you purchase it, you spend 1000 dollars.
If you don't, you may spend nothing for repair or spend 1400 on struts replacement. Some people complains strut fails within short time/mileage after 3y/36k miles warranty expire, but not a lot, i think.
In my opinion, if you usually let dealer/garage change Air Filter for you, you should bought it.
If you are big DIY guy ( say, you would change strut yourself ) , then usually you don't need it.
In between, depends on the price, and this is not a bad price.
Do a search on Extended Warranty. There is a thread going around a while back with a good price and recommendation in that thread. You don't have to buy Extended Warranty from the dealer. You can buy it anywhere. It should be lowered than $1,000.

$1400?
I bought new struts for $330. Install will cost about $300...
I did some searching last night and it seems like I will have to go elsewhere. I already have an extended warranty because I bought a certified car, but the $1,000 is supposed to take my initial 3/36K bumper-bumper warranty and extend that to 7/100K (since my car is a 2009, the true years is more like 6/100K). it seems like people were getting/paying for FULL warranties and the prices were less. My option to "wrap" the car and have the original warranty extended to 7/100K. Is this post confusing?
honeslty i dont really see much need for extended warrenty at least for me down in florida, driving conditions are not bad at all, i drive the car like it should be driven, (like its a mid size sedan, not a beemer) so personally i turned down extended warrenty, if it breaks i will fix it, and once its starts asking for more than its giving i will trade it in for a new one. but if you drive hard, have bad driving conditions, hills, traffic, bad weather. than yeah your gonna need some help with repairs cuz things will break. if i was to go with a extended warrenty it would have to be the top of the line platnium. be careful who you go with if you do decied to go outside the dealer, i have heard bad news from a few outside companies.
I have read quite a bit on the "extended" warranties and most/many note the "platinum". I reviewed the "platinum" and the warranty I described is not that. I purchased a CPO and it is a 7/100K warranty. I was offered another warranty that would continue the 3/36K warranty that comes with a new Toyota..the "bumper-bumper" warranty. That one is also 7/100K warranty. I am having some trouble finding the particular warranty I mention. No one has mentioned having a CPO warranty and adding the "bumper" one...that is what I need help in.

Ya, 1400 is dealer's price.
Since he is talking about warranty, I limit to dealer price.
Actually i am thinking to get one from Amazon for 70 dollars , no tax , no shipping. Dealer or garage may charges around 170 + tax.
One Garage ( in California ) ask for 3 hour labor, ( or 2.5 hour labor if purchase struts from them ) to install one pair. ( 85 / hour ).
So it is about 395 for one pair to do it in the garage I asked.
But, if I don't purchase struts from them, there is no one year parts and labor warranty.
BTW, i think 300 is a good price to install 4, I hope I can find some garage willing to do it when i need it.
i work at a dealership. the fact is you may never use it if you get it and that's what they're hoping for. for that price for a factory warranty its a good deal. factory warranties are always better. usually more when you buy them after the fact.
there are some really good 2nd and 3rd party warranties but they can start to get pricey as you add more coverage. the thing you need to look into are:
if they have roadside (gas, lockout, jump, not just towing) rental, trip interruption.
do they pay diagnosis up front or do you have pony up the cash first and then IF its covered they pay it.
what are they're $$ limits on an estimate before they send an adjuster to verify the complaints. do they pay for rental while they wait for the inspection. how many days of rental total per claim and at what rate? enterprise will usually match $25-$35 per day depending on the dealerships relationship.
how do they pay? credit card or check? whats the dealership policy's on getting payments? mine is cod. no money no car.
whats the deductible? is it disappearing after the first time?
fidelity, resource , carmax's x-warr. royal . are a few. sorry if i wrote to much
I've worked in various Toyota parts deptartments since 1981. Get the Toyota extended warranty if you get any. There is too much BS with most aftermarket warranties and a lot of the times they want to fix your car with used or non-Toyota parts. We recently put a fourth rebuilt trans in a late model Corolla because the aftermarket warranty company would not go for a Toyota reman and sent us no-name rebuilts that are obviously junk. 4 transmissions in less than a year and that particular warranty company does not cover rentals. Do yourself a big favor and don't skimp.
