OEM / aftermarket water pump?

I'm wondering about toyota OEM water pump quality versus aftermarket like Beck Arnley or others.

The pump on my 4 cyl, 04 Camry is leaking after only 43 k Miles. I know there have been problems with the OEM pumps. I'm wondering what my best bet might be. An OEM pump will cost me about 120 for the part.

Any thoughts?

Beck Arnley doesn't have factories. They may rebox parts made by OEM (Aisin in this case) or other aftermarket manufactuers (such as Japan's NPW or Korea's GMB). You might get OEM but again you might not. Some people aren't willing to take chances like that.

So check out the $60.79 Aisin pump on rockauto.com. Use the 5% TN member discount code. Aisin is the OEM manufacturer for Toyota. See if you can see the "Aisin" casting on your Toyota pump.
AISIN Part # WPT801 {#16100-0H010, 16100-28040, 16100-28041}

So besides Aisin and BA, another one I'm willing to try is Airtex. They are a Tier One supplier, but they may rebox/outsource some parts to other manufacturers you never know. So go with Aisin on this one.

Be very carefull with rockauto! Their database is inacurate. Check out online toyota suppliers.

Good luck,

i have always had good luck with Napa parts (napaonline.com if there's no store near you). Good quality parts that cost just a little bit more than Kragen or Pep Jerks, and never got a bad part from them in 30 years.

NAPA is actually where I get most of the water pumps. It's faster and moe convenient than mail order when time is important.

Airtex was what they carried as their premium line now the "NAPA" line. Like I said, sometimes they make the pumps, other times they rebox Japanese aftermarket pumps like NPW and such.

Many parts stores actually offer lifetime warranty for their premium line pumps. The cheap ones get like 1 year warranty. Never use the cheapest line, because stores have to supply to customers of all budgets.

My 2007 I4 Camry's original water pump leaked/failed at 36K and was replaced under warranty by Toyota with another OEM pump which failed at 61K. I decided this time to replace the pump myself with an aftermarket pump because the OEM Toyota waterpumps seem to have a history of leaking. I used the $51.00 GMB (PN 170-2470) new waterpump with a lifetime warranty from Advance Auto. I hope it will last a lot longer than the two previous OEM pumps, but if and when it fails the replacement will be free and I now have the experience to easily replace the pump myself.

One thing with GMB pumps is they use rubber seals. That's not a problem if you use Toyota coolant. Definitely no silicated coolant with these and they say so.

(Otherwise Bosch from Pep Boys can use low silicated coolant like G-05 like the instruction sheet in the box says. But these don't carry lifetime warranty IIRC.)
