Gen5 Having trouble installing rubber cushion

I am trying to install rubber cushion that stop trunk arm from hitting the top of the trunk. I was unable to fit the rubber cushion into the opening. My brother was told me to wait until tomorrow to install. His reasoning was that if it is still hot outside, the metal will expand and it will allow for the rubber cushion to fit right in.

Is there any tips or tricks for installing this rubber piece?

I have no problem placing the rubber cushion into the slot right right the arm hits the frame. However, the rubber part doesn't seem to stick to anything. Am I suppose to place any adhesive products to make the rubber piece stay?
