Some Gen 5/6 questions

I'm looking for a price range and what's needed for some mods.

What's needed to lower the car? Is it coilover springs? That's what you guys seem to be talking about. What's the general price range on that?

How about for smoked tailights/headlights or tinted? How much does that usually cost?

Also: price ranges on window tints (full) and LED bulb changes on the inside? Anyone have personal experiences with these and could give me estimated rates? Financially limited, so to speak.

Also: a general question... I've heard rumors that the 5th generation isn't as smooth of a drive and runs into problems even more so than the 4th gen (which is what I drive, '99 camry with 200k miles still going strong), and the 6th gen fixed this... is this true? Do you prefer the 5th to the 6th gen? I like both of the generations, the 6th more probably, but I figure I might be able to get a nice deal on a 5th, lower my price, and modify it, rather than get a stock 6th gen because of my money problems. Thanks guys!

yes you can get springs or coils. can range from 150 all the way to almost a thousand. PM kenny, peach, pawel, etc cause they can get good deals.
smoked/tinted headlights you can yourself by buying a can of spray paint. tail lights you can buy an overlay for either 20 from ebay or 40 from bluebat.
window tints you can call yourself and ask for quotes. LED bulbs go to v-led, can range from $25 to even more depending on which bulbs you buy.

please please look for yourself and call places on your own. don't expect an answer from everybody when you ask a full list of questions that can be figured out on your own. if anything, find things more SPECIFIC and that will be more helpful. your questions are too broad.

$250 springs
$250 LED tail lights, $50 for overlays or whatever
$300 tint

If you install them yourself, free. If not, Springs probably cost $300 or so to install.

The prices above are correct. It cost $650 for H&R springs to be purchased and installed on my car. LED Tail lights were about $180 through a discounted price. $250 for tint.

For parts cost, send a PM to "Princess Peach".

Alrite thanks fellas. And the tail lights and tint you've mentioned would be with installation price? Or are they easy to do yourself?

Even the springs, doable by an amateur?

The tint and springs (need alignment afterwards) should be done professionally if you want it done properly and don't have the proper tools or friends. The price for the tint and springs above assumed that you hired someone.

The tail lights you can do yourself using a DIY on the website, which is exactly what I did. Pretty easy to do, just take your time.

Sounds good. Yeah, just as an example, I like your head and tail lights. That'd be around what I'm aiming for when I get my new Camry.

How about any takers on the 5th/6th gen comparison?

Not much to compare. The Gen 6 is newer and does everything better. Except fit and finish on the inside.

Yes I realize the 6th gen is a better car: but any opinions on you guys if you were purchasing right now or are:

Would you prefer (on a limited financial budget): to get a 5th gen for cheaper, and use some of the excess money to mod it

Or get a stock 6th gen and work from there

Kind of hard to answer that considering we already own the car and we own it for a reason.

Obviously, the 5th gen is cheaper due to age but its a matter of what is suitable for you and what you like whether its performance specs of body style.

If you dont care for body style and on a tight financial budget, get a 5th gen and work from there. No one knows your situation, preference, likes, dislikes except for you.

Yeah, It's a hard question. I appreciate the effort regardless.

For me, it's engine/performance over looks. But if I get a v6, I'm fine with that and then it goes toward looks. I would only purchase a v6. Obviously the 6th gen Camry's have quite a bit of pep nowadays with 270/+ hp. My '99 Camry v6 is even like a rocket to me, so I'm sure the 5th gen v6 is no slouch either.

I guess what I'm asking is: do you guys like the looks of the modded 5th gens? Are there any posters here have spent a lot of time and earnings on a 5th gen that's heavily modded for their everyday cars?

Gen 6 looks significantly more updated than the Gen 5.

I'd get the Gen 6.
