5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 2011 Toyota Camry with a nav. headunit that I am keeping in.
My local installer shop has recommended the following system to be installed: -prices are installed prices-
JBL MS-8 Preamp - $900
Boston Acoustics Amp: GTA 1005 (5 Channel) - $650
Boston Acoustics Speakers - $700-800
Boston Acoustics Sub: G3 -or- Image Dynamics IDQ - $300
Sound Dampening - $150
Good Cable: Stinger Roadkill - $150
I walked in ready to part with about $500-$1000 and all this quickly added up to about $3000. Now, I rarely spend money on myself so I would be fine to part with the $3000 but I'd like to know if this system raises any red flags?
DAYMMM haha thats crazy expensive idk what Boston acoustic is. If your looking for bass majority of speakers sound the same unless you go top of the line mostly just vibrations. You should do some shopping around you can get a great system for 500-1000 my friend got a W7 13inch with wiring and amp and cap for under 1000 from a shop and he did the speakers himself costed him probably 1000-1200 total his sub hits so hard tho. But my best advice is go shop around and see what you can get usually shops mark up what the products originally go for to make a profit so if you order stuff that could save a chunk of money. Good Luck
Ok i did a quick search
Boston acoustic G3 subs go from 130-200 a peice
JBL pre amp 799.99 free S&H
Boston Acoustics GTA-1005 5-channel 299.95
idk what kind of speakers you want but there's some that range from 69.99-174.95
didnt look up wiring or the dampening
These are just prices i grab off google but im sure if you looked harder you can find even better deals. Also you will save a ton of money if you do it or have a friend help you if you dont know how then your gonna end up paying a chunk out of pocket anyways,
The question is are you handy and no what your doing, all of that can be done by yourself or with the help of a buddy for a whole lot less
x2, i installed my whole system myself, its really not that hard at all you just gotta know what your doing. lol you can take a look at my cardomain link. also buying everything off of ebay will save you money too.
how much would he charge if you just brought the parts and he just did the install? The JBL MS8 is an amazing piece of hardware, but overkill for what you look like you want (correct me if im wrong) If you want something simple look into a rockford fosgate 3sixty.1 instead.
the MS8 is pretty much a fancy LOC that does crossover/eq/ta.
+1 on the rockford fosgate ive had 3 sets of there Punch series and two of their T series. Some may disagree saying that there quality as diminished but i like them. Also you can find good deals on them if you look around.
ditto to what these guys said bro. Don't spend that much money on the system.. Find products online and I'm sure you can get a great sounding system for half the price... If you're able to do it yourself, more the power to you!
I bought a lot of my stuff online and small local shops and hell I LOVE my system, and I did it all myself..
Rockford Fosgate 3sixty is amazing! (i have the 360.2)
2 id max 12" in a infinite baffle install powered by a rockford T2000.1
power series jBL speakers / alpine 4 channel / kicker 2 channel
Elemental Designs 1/0 gauge wiring and sound deadning
damn thats way 2 much money..i got all my stuff pretty cheap...I'm from LA so i went downtown and got a great deal on all my stuff(not bootleg)
12 inch w7 with jl box...pioneer 4 way 6x9s all around...infiniti tweeters...alpine amp and jl amp for the sub
did the installation myself...i also installed my head unit..its hard at 1st but once u kno ull figure it out

i'd do some research, find otu what parts you want, and call around local shops to see if they can pricematch online prices. That way, you get authorized warranty with better pricing.
esp for electronics, i'd rather buy authorized so you get manf warranty. If it is purchased unauthorized, they wont help u if something goes wrong

Since you said yours come with the nav, it should already come with JBL amp already. Granted, its not the best. I would probably change out the speakers if you want better sound
This is totally a rip off, I got 2 15 inch kicker L7's, a 2000 watt amp (subs) a 500 watt amp (interiror speakers) a capacitor, a box, and a paging car alarm all installed for under $2000 you really need to call or check around. There are way better prices out there
H
JBL MS-8 Preamp - $900
Boston Acoustics Amp: GTA 1005 (5 Channel) - $650
Hope this includes wires.... That amp retails for $500. How is this being installed. I had a shop mount my amp for $25. Power wire, speaker wires, RCAs.
Boston Acoustics Speakers - $700-800
What type of speakers? I hope you are getting components up front for this price. You should listen to the speakers before you buy. Silk and titanium tweeters sound very different and polarizes many people due to the different characteristics of each.
Boston Acoustics Sub: G3 -or- Image Dynamics IDQ - $300
I say ID or IDQ. Sub will probably run about $200. This should include enclosure which can run about 30-60 or more for custom or special designs. How big are teh subs and how many.
Sound Dampening - $150
Good Cable: Stinger Roadkill - $150
How much wire and what kind? All the wire for my amp was less than $100. Probably even less than $80. Is this partly labor? Is this labor separate from the amp labor?
