5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
After searchin up on countless forums and working on this one coilover for many hours on numerous amounts of days, this is my last call for help before i..unfortunately.. may have to pay someone to fix this problem.
My coilover is seized. The lower section of the coilover i assume is seized. Ive tried the following
- Soaked in WD40
- Followed by a nice clean of the threads
- Pressure sprayed any excess grime and dirt
- Bought some chemical which freezes the metal. I thought it would work, and upon discussing this with a few fellas at the local auto joint they said theyve had much success with this. The metal contracts and it should unseize this..but no that didnt work either.
- I also bought some copper grease, which ill apply later to prevent this from happening in the future
- I even batted the C spanners when attached to rings which change the spring rate with a hammer countless of times hoping it would come loose and turn. This technique worked with my other seized coilover which i unseized with WD40.
- I even added some leverage. But however, not a big as leverage like redline suggested with using a pipe wrench.
What should i do next? Or basically have i ran outta options and the next bit is to actually pay someone to do this?

LOL sorry peach. Completely forgot i even had that post in that thread. Been to frustrated with this. But now my car is sitting one cm lower to the left even though both front coilovers are exactly the same length with the exactly the same spring rates

i can't believe ur coils seized so quickly. next time (after u hammer it to get it loose), make sure to clear the threading with your fingers of all little metals and debris that can get your coils stuck before screwing it.

Yeah i think i might do that actually. And yeah i cleaned it before putting them originally, but then i went back to the shop a couple days later to get it adjusted higher and yeah they probably didnt clean it then. But ive got all the materials needed now to prevent this from happening in the future! Good learning curve.
Cheers peach!

Thats true. But i was hoping the metal would contract and would give me room to turn these threads so the dirt would have been loose. But no such luck.
