Whatever happened to sluggish V6?

Hi..

I have an 05 Camry XLE V6.

Back when I bought the car in 05, I found out there was a lot of chatter about the sluggish response downshifting and how the drive-by-wire computer may be overloaded, etc. And at least one person went to arbitration with Toyota over it..and lost.

And then Toyota came out with a TSB that had the dealer reprogram the transmission to shift more responsively. I had that done back then-didn't do much.

So, here I am 5 years later..and I am curious if there ever was any resolution or firm understanding of what was the issue?

I have heard, of course, that later years never had that problem!

Always the way, isn't it!!

Thanks

There was a resolution years later... the 2007 Camry V6.... I guess Toyota took your complaint seriously and upgraded the engine!

Oh well...

I actually think it was a combination of everything..the engine, the computer, the transmission, etc. changed to make it a more responsive system.

2005 was their first year for drive-by-wire..so maybe they blew it a bit!

I have 87,000 mi now and at least 4 more years to go on this car..so that's why I am curious what happened.

Thanks.
