Suggestions for replacing front and back door speakers 2010 Camry SE
Hi,
I am new to this site so forgive me if this question has been asked before.
Anyways... I have recently purchased a 2010 Camry SE without the JBL audio system, and would like to start off slow, and replace the stock front and back door speakers for now... I would power them using the stock head unit....
I bought the 6x9 Alpine type S speakers, however the guy at the install shop says with the newer Camry's, they would not fit because the tweeter will stick out so far, that you wont be able to get the door panel back on....
Has anyone heard this? and if so, what speakers have you installed or would suggest installing that give good sound and have fit in your car?
Simple amplifier suggestions that can connect to the stock head unit would be appreciated also...
You bought entry level coaxials as an upgrade? That is definitely not the way to go...
Go return those coaxials. If you want to "upgrade," get yourself a decent component set like Focal 165 KRX2 and a decent amp to go with them.
Something like Arc Audio KS 300.4 should work well. The KRX2 are 2 ohms and they'll take 200W RMS...The KS300.4 will gladly give them 175W RMS @ 2 ohm per channel or 90W RMS @ 4 ohms. Or Arc XXD 4080 would work well too -- a bit higher end but less power.

what would be great to know is what is your budget? some of these guys are suggestion $200+ a pair for speakers and IMO, i would just go something in the middle area around $100 or no more than $300 for both sets. you dont need HD audio in your car, but if you are i would look into a new headunit, speakers, and an amp at the same time.

I really hope that you don't have $2,500 worth of component speakers in a Camry

Harmon Internation is the company that makes JBL and Mark Levinson systems for Toyota. They also make Infinity aftermarket brand speakers. I'm not sure but I thought the company went into bankruptcy reorganization a couple of times. So must be a good audio company.
Alpine is a small Japanese company focused on niche markets. But I think they make decent speakers and head units.
Also check www.crutchfield.com for other ideas and components. Online-chat with their advisors.
Edit: I think the googled bankruptcy references are about some of Harmon's customers (like Chrysler). Dunno.

Thanks for the advice!... I am kinda on a tight budget right now(just bought the car, got windows tinted, and ordered some BBS wheels).. I figured I will just do a little upgrade on the speakers until I save up and get what I really want..lol
WTF is the point then? Why not just save up until you have enough for what you really want? Buying something to use intermediately is just a waste of money. If you buy those speakers now, it will take you even longer to get what you "really want." Be that a set of Focal, Premier, Arc, Rainbow, Diamond, Brax, Zapco, Alpine SPX, or something else.

So what kinda of speakers are you suggesting and what do I need to replace?
If I get a JBL amp will it work with other speakers?
My budget is around $200 bucks for all speakers. Im not looking for Mark Levinsons... or cheap Walmart speakers lol.
