5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey everyone,
I left work this afternoon to find that my car wouldn't start (apparently I forgot to turn off the lights). Anyways, I got a jump from the maintenance person, the car is otherwise fine, it's just that the passenger side headlight is significantly dimmer & it seems as if the color just dulled out; you can really tell the difference. Here is a picture i just took, would i need a new kit for that side, or would charging the battery do.
Has it always been like this or is it recent? looks to me that you've discovered the quality control behind HID kits or lack thereof. Another cause could be that you didn't give it the few minutes of warmup time.
If that's a gen5 I see, those kits are very much going to blind the shit out of everybody on the street... but whatever makes you happy =\. I do recommend a cheap retrofit like mini h1 (will cost about $135 for projectors and $15 for h1 bulbs to use w/ your existing kit)
Meanwhile, this question has been answered many times over.. but of course searching doesn't always give awesome results. The stickies on the other hand have a lot of useful information. I suggest you dig through there before making a new thread next time

This litereally just happened after I left it on today, so far no one has troubled me ever & everybody loves it. I've asked my sister, friend's of mine all to either let me follow them or drive up in from of you. I've also sat in my dad's car as my either my dad or sister pulled my car up in front of my in the driveway ( my driveway goes up & comes back down)...no problem what so ever w/glare.
i dont know what youre talking about, but it produces massive glare. the cars with regular reflectors with HIDs in them have so much glare that its annoying to drive in front of and facing them at a stop light or something. So many TCs have HIDs and its glaring like hell.
Glare sucks but at least post something use full to the op while making your statement. Now then do you have a harness or is it plugged into your oem harness?
oh I forgot to answer one of his questions. I'm pretty sure it's just the Chinese quality of bulbs. My guess is that you could solve the problem by buying another bulb... but it's possible that it'll end up being a different color from the other two.
Buying a new kit would be unnecessary as it seems your ballasts are firing up just fine. If you did not buy a harness I would check your wiring. If you left it on all night and skipped out on a harness, I'd explore the possibility of your oem wiring gettin melted. I'm still puttin my bets on the bulb tho.
opham - I've seen plenty of HIDs in halogen reflectors or projectors that didn't glare. It's probably the combination of bulb gettin old fast and housing gettin fogged up, but it's possible nonetheless; if the op already checked that much then I won't doubt him.
This is the 5th HID kit for from VVME...this is the 1st one i am having a problem w/...I am going to talk to VVME & replace them. Do you think 15k would look nice, or should I stick w/10k?
This is simple stuff. Unplug both bulbs. Start the engine, turn on the headlights at the stalk. They are still unplugged. Using your volt meter, check the voltage out at both plugs. They should be equal. If the voltage is substantially lower on the side with the weak output, then the problem is in the ballast. If the voltages are equal, then the bulb is defective.
