Question Aftrmrkt Sub/Amp install w/Factory JBL HU

Hey guys/gals,
I don't post much over here in the Camry section as I spend most of my time in the truck forums, but I need some help....

I have been searching the forums and have found a lot of information but have not been able to definitively answer my questions.

My fiancee drives a 2008 Camry equipped with the JBL sound system. She wants to install an amp and sub from her previous vehicle in her Camry without replacing the HU. My question is, what equipment is necessary to complete the install (aside from the normal wires and cables required to power an amp)? I know when I was doing the research for the install on my Tacoma (also JBL equipped) in order to use the factory head unit it required the use of a JL Clean Sweep. Is this the same with the Camry?

I am trying to find out if there is a cheaper/easier alternative to the Clean Sweep, because my fiancee is going to sell the amp and sub tonight if the clean sweep is the only option.

Any help you could give me in a hurry would be greatly appreciated!

I used the MTX RE-Q in my 2010 Camry w/ JBL system.

It costs about $130 and it can be found here:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_236REQ/...=M&c=3&tp=6870

The only reason you use a sound processor like the RE-Q or the CleanSweep is because starting several years ago car manufactures started reducing the bass in the signal coming out of the factory head units in order to avoid blowing factory speakers.

The sound processors are used to bring back the full spectrum of the signal including the bass.

You may not even need it with the JBL system, but I figured it couldn't hurt so I installed it.

I suggest that you connect your signal cables to the wires coming directly off of your factory amplifier located under your passenger seat. I have heard horror stories when people try to connect to the 6x9s in the trunk. It may have just been on the 2010 model tho since the wiring changed in 2010. I wired mine up directly off the outputs of the factory amplifier and it sounds great.

The MTX RE-Q will give you RCA outputs to feed directly to your amplifier as well. I needed this feature because my amp did not have any other signal inputs.

Any other questions just ask

Thanks for the info. If all it takes is the re-Q for me to use my factory JBL amp and headunit with aftermarket amp and subwoofer, maybe i'll convince my bro-in-law to give me his that he's selling.

FYI, you can get the MTX re-Q on eBay for almost half the price of what Crutchfield is charging.

There is other cheaper options if your just looking to make the sub work with a jbl system. My cousin currently uses this line output converter in his stock premium stereo to add a sub to and works perfectly fine with no problems. Pretty cheap too $40 unless you wanna go highend.

If it was me, I'd spend the extra $30 and get the MTX on eBay.

I checked out the MTX on Crutchfield, but it said nothing of the install procedures. How difficult is the install? I don't want to have to cut any of the factory wiring...

How would I go about connecting the signal cables to the wiring under the passanger seat?

Take a look at the owners manual that is on crutchfields website. It has installation and wiring information

http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchf...236/236REQ.PDF

Theres also a video of them talking about it.
