Need Help!!! Check Engine Light On!

Aloha Guys,

So I went for a trip for a week, came back started my ride and the engine light came on.
Has anyone experienced this? If so how can I go about getting this issue resolved?
Car only has 23,700 miles on it with no engine mods!

I searched the forum for "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" but had no luck.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

Mahalo,

Shane

Some auto parts stores will read the fault codes for free, if there are some like that in Hawaii. A local service station should have a code scanner to read the code also. Otherwise it's off to the dealer.

Once you get the code, search for the specific code on this forum as well as google it.

My issue was a P0420 (bad Catalytic converter), but sometimes these codes can be misleading where nothing may be actually wrong (which was in my case), and there are home fixes for these that are showing erroneously.

As long as your CEL (Check Engine Light) is not flashing, it "may" not be something that is actually wrong, but somehow the CEL was prompted.

Also, whomever you use to get the code, see if they can clear it as well to save you the trouble.

I have responded to 2 other posts for CEL and P0420, so you can review these if your issue/code is the same as mine.

For a Gen5/Gen6 w/only 24K miles, I would be surprised if the CEL is actually indicating something serious.

Good luck!

If the code turns out to be P0420, here's a good link with some help:

Thanks for the help guys!

Called a local shop and he instructed me to check the gas cap!
I went on a trip to Texas for a wk and did not start the car. I undid the gas cap and screwed it back on and this morning the CEL went off!

My Mother-in-law (age 85) drives an '06 Camry and is very weak and has trouble putting the cap on tight enough. She gets a CEL about once ea. year. I have to remind her to turn the cap until it clicks a few times.

Hope the CEL doesn't come back for you.
