Gen5 Adding ABS

2003 Camry LE doesnt have ABS. Wife had an acident, if the insurance doesnt total it, which i dont think they will. I would like to add ABS because the car is paid for and will be given to my 16 year old daughter. I think ABS was offered in 2003 so could I just go back and buy OEM ABS or should i be looking for an aftermarket system if it exists? Or is this just a dumb idea?

Easiest and simplest way to get abs = push insurance to total it and get another car.

Installing abs would cost a TON and take so much effort it just isnt worth it. Youd basically have to swap complete brake system including hubs.

Yeah, not worth it.. It's not anywhere near 'plug and play' - you're better off selling it and getting another Camry with ABS depending on how important it is to you. I learned to drive in a gen 3.5 without ABS but now that I have it on my gen 5.5, I wouldn't want a car without it whether buying new or used.

It's a good idea to want ABS, but a retrofit would be almost impossible. I doubt you could find a mechanic to do the installation. Purchasing the parts would be prohibitive. Are the front and back hubs drilled for the pickups. Not a good way to go.. Take the money from the settlement and purchase a car with ABS.I'd rather have my prostate reamed out again than try to retrofit ABS.
