Hi Everyone, nice to meet you all. This forum is really great as there are many knowledgeable and helpful people. I read through the stickies and did a TN search on GPS and Navigation problems, but couldn't find a conclusive response.
I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on the following:
I am the proud owner of a 2007 Toyota Camry XLE, loaded with all the features. Since day 1, the navigation's vehicle icon had been on the wrong location, but only in a designated 100 square feet area in downtown LA, which I had always assumed (since it would happen every time I traveled through that spot) was a satellite glitch or something (sorry I'm not an expert). Never had any problems anywhere else.
Skip ahead to 35 months of ownership and 25k miles. The navigation suddenly (as in, working fine as usual one second, and then BOOM next second) went bonkers. I am in reality, driving on the freeway, but the GPS thinks I'm flying through uncharted hills over nonexistent roads. I panic until the end of my commute (at $2000, the GPS is no measly upgrade!). I read the manual and recalibrate my car's position. The next day, all is well until after driving about 5 minutes, when the positioning no longer accurately reflects the vehicle. It doesn't so much jump; it suffers from inaccurate tracking. It seems like the navigation thinks I'll have traveled 100 feet, when in reality I've traveled 500. However, after 20 minutes of driving, the icon suddenly jumped perfectly back into place of where I was supposed to be (this is my daily work commute, so I know exactly where I'm supposed to be on the map).
Research online reveals this:
http://www.toyotapart.com/NAVIGATION...T-EL012-06.pdf. However, my car's VIN is not listed as part of the affected.
Called the dealership. They were quick to pressure me into scheduling an appointment ASAP...but could not give me any definitive numbers for cost or time. I told them it was still under warranty, and would they still charge me? They said no, but if they determined the problem to be something that warranty does not cover, then they would (sounds like a prime opportunity to swindle the consumer).
What does everyone think? Has anyone experienced this before? Is it a software operating system issue, outdated DVD issue, or hardware issue? If the dealership tries to charge me, what would be a legitimate charge? How can I prevent myself from being taken advantage of at the dealership, as I fit the bill for prime target (female, young, babyface)?
Thank you!
