5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I have recently noticed with 1500 miles on my new car that the bugs I hit are digging into my paint. Now I know the paint is thin on the newer models and they are water based but this is ridiculous. I clean the bugs off every other day and it seems like everytime i clean them off I find more damage to my new car. I took it to the dealer and the dealer called the Toyota rep and he says that it isn't a defect in the paint. I am so disappointed with the paint but love the car. I guess I will get a bra since the front is messed up anyways at this point. Anyone else having similar issues?

Well the bugs should be able to be cleaned off without problems. Try Turtle Wax Bug and Tar.
It's the rocks that will destroy the front end of your car (my bumper has tons of little knicks and paint damage).
That is the best stuff for bug and tar removal and have been using it for years. After cleaning the bugs off there are indentions in the paint and bumper cover. A bra should fix that problem just frustrated my new car is messed up already.

Lol, don't sweat it... abumper is meant to be destroyed.
Eventually, you can it completely repainted for like $200 or whatever at a body shop.
I experienced the same problem with my 2009 SE Camry. I had bug damage to the front bumper and hood of the car as well as micro scratches/chips in the paint. The dealership did an acid rain wash and bug removal, but they couldn't do anything for the microchips. A lot of the bug damage is still there. This all took place within the first 3 months of ownership and I bought it new. I was very upset. Especially since I spent the money on that stupid EPA paint protection stuff. They wouldn't even cover it. I wish I would have known about the clear bras. I would have definately had that installed. I've been to a lot of body shops. The cheapest says 975 to fix it.
You really know how to put words in other people's mouths. I'm not saying that only Camrys get hit with bugs. I am letting the OP know that he is not alone in the frustration he feels in having a new car's paint ruined by bug damage.

Ironically, I was remarking today how much sturdier the paint on my 2011 Camry seems compared with that on my 2007 Corolla. The paint on the Corolla seemed pretty fragile, but the Camry's paint seems tougher. And I even live in the same part of the country as the OP. So I don't know...the bugs on my car come off fairly easily with the soap and brush. I guess a really thick coat of wax on the front would help, or those clear bras.
