Gen6 2010 camry JBL sub amp install DIY

Ok, so just last week i did my own sub and amp install. Heres how i did it to prevent any future threads about the same topic:

First of heres what i used for the install
10mm wrench for battery terminals
unfolded mettle clothes hanger
electrical tape
Wire cutters
pliers
flathead and Phillips screw driver (to unclip fender splash guard)
4 Gage amp wiring kit
Kenwood Exlon 1500 watt amp:http://www.6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=KENXR1S
And a sub/box similar to these:
http://www.6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=KIC07DC122

1: theres a perfect size hole for the amp power wire to the battery just under the driver side finder, just pop off the splash guard and feel for the hood release cable and follow it to the inside of the fender. I simply tape the wire around a mettle unfolded close hanger to snake it into the cabin.
heres how it looked from under the hood after i did this

2:your going to have to remove the kicker panel because your wire is going to be coming out of that area

3:now remove the kicker panel on the drivers door, and put it in the plastic clips where the stock wiring goes

4: now remove the pillar cover and put the wire behind it. BE SURE NOT TO TOUCH THE YELLOW WIRING, its for your SRS system

5:remove the rear kicker panel and place your wire under it:

6: this part required 2 people for me at least,(SE and XLE only with rear V brace) you'll see a little spot to snake the wire into the trunk without removing the seats, remove the cover in the trunk that surrounds the center pass through and have a friend push the wire back there, it should appear and you can just grab it and pull it up. Now your power wire is in your trunk and you can put everything back together. You can ground at just about any metal in the trunk...Sence i have the SE i grounded to the Vbrace behind the back seat.
Now for the remote wire, i personally used the power outlet in the center stack, just pop that whole thing off and tap into the RED wire as shown:

you can snake that down and under the pass seat and behind the kicker panels on the passenger side as shown in the pics above.

Now for the line out converter at the JBL amp, the wires for the rear speakers are:
Rear left + blue
rear left - yellow

Right rear + green with white tracer
Right rear - Brown
All of these wires can be found at the wiring harness closest to the front of the car on the JBL amp:

Now you can run your RCA cables back to the amp on the passenger side right next to the remote cable. You now have a well hidden professional looking install.
heres how my final product looked:

I'm sure i may have left some small details out as i made this thread AFTER i did the install so if you have any questions just post here and ill answer to the best of my abilities.

thanks

thanks for the great diy. just a few questions.
1. do you already have the jbl amp and wired up an aftermarket amp to replace it?
2. I dont have the jbl amps and speakers so would the wiring be the same?

i didn't replace the factory JBL amp, I'm keeping the stock speakers, head unit, and amp just added the amp to power the subs. And sense you don't have the JBL if you just wanted to add the amp I'm sure you could tap off of the rear deck. But i would recommend doing it at the back of the head unit. Also wireing colors will probably be different

for the remote why didnt you use the fuse box under the steering column? much easier, and your kicker panels and door sills are already off.

Also are your subs dual or single voice coils?
Im going to assume they are both single 4ohm ? and your connectcting them to your mono amp with a 2ohm set up?

also get a dmm and look around the net and properly set your gain. Or at least find the max setting that you shouldnt go over. I have a feeling that you have your gain set fairly high ...

thats a really clean and neat install...that hole you ran the 4gauge wire through, do you think its big enough to run a set of 0 gauge wire through it?

sounds good, you got yourself a solid amp for 2ohm rms power. Properly powering the subs. I hate seeing kids who have subs that need like 1000wrms, and they would be a 1000w "max" amp that puts out like 200rms to power the subs!

Also if you google it, you should find it, if not ill take a look tomorrow for it. It pretty much will let you know what the max setting you can have your gain before it starts to distort. If you keep your gain down it should be fine, and probably louder than needed but some people like to crank the gain up on smaller amps that dont have enough power to power their subs. Most people think gains = voume

not to thread jack or anything, but i have the jbl system and looking to use a stereo intergration harness for my jbl system to work with a after market headunit, since the stock system is ok, but i need more crisp treble without upgrade speakers, i think its the stock headunit that is causing the problem.

which one of these do you guys think will be better? if anyone is currently using such device please let me know how it sounds. thanks

headunit being added is a Alpine CDA-9887 with 4volt rca outputs.

I just did an install in my car as well ... i ran 0 gauge from the battery to the trunk. (sorry no pics)

I drilled a big ass hole through the fire wall, put a grommet in and the wire ran just fine. It was bit of a bitch to run the wire because its so thick but the end result was fantastic..

i took out the factory jbl amp and tapped into the harness underneath the seat and ran wires to the amps and just installed new speakers in the factory locations.

Great install pics btw
